Titan Submersible - RIP

Titan Submersible That Dared to Explore

The Abode of The Titans!

Submersible.

Definition according to the dictionary:

Designed to operate while submerged

And this is what was expected from the Titan Submersible. It was meant to operate flawlessly while remaining submerged- Titan Sub was capable of reaching depths of 4000 metres below sea level. And sustain incredible pressure building upon it from all sides.

However, due to some technical failure the Titan submersible imploded, instantly killing all 5 passengers onboard the Titan submersible.

The 5 occupants of the Titan Submersible were believed to include :

  • British billionaire Hamish Harding

  • OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush

  • Legendary Titanic explorer Paul-Henri Nargeolet

  • British businessman Shahzada Dawood and Dawood's 19-year-old son Suleman

After the Submersible went missing, it was confirmed that the Titan Submersible had imploded, and all its 5 occupants had died.

The director of the famous movie, Titanic, also expressed his grief and shock, when he learned about the missing submersible.

Titanic director James Cameron accuses OceanGate of cutting corners

Although war footing based rescue missions were launched by the US and Canadian governments. Rescuing the submersible was a race against time, and in this seemingly losing battle, the news about the Titan Subs implosion, confirmed that the technology used in the submersible was obsolete and it was the major factor that had allowed the unforgiving nature of the oceanic abyss, seal the fate of the Titan Sub, and with it, the fate of the 5 occupants as well.

Please Note : OceanGate was the operator of the Titan Submersible

I think sometimes we underestimate the “brute force” of nature that does not spare anyone. If the thrill seekers of the deep ocean are not well prepared and fully equipped to deal with the unpredictable nature of one of the most powerful elements of nature i.e. Water. Then it tantamount to committing suicide, and if the thrill seekers still hope with confidence to see the sunrise tomorrow. then I would say, we are underestimating one of the formidable forces of nature. The water!

And when it comes to submersibles, especially Titan Sub, capable of operating at an incredible depth of 4000 metres, there is no room for errors, and being equipped with alternatives that would operate as self rescue options in case the submersible malfunctions, becomes imperative. And from all the online news sources available on Titan Sub, there were no life saving alternatives available with the occupants of the Titan Sub. And the same was highlighted by the famous Hollywood director, Mr. James Cameron as well.

I am a science fiction enthusiast, and I passionately believe it is in human nature to push the boundaries of technology and challenge the God of abyss. Poseidon. And it is for this reason I like Greek mythology because the Greeks appear to have a God or a Titan attributed to every force that exists in the cosmos.

The Greek Mythology, by assigning Gods and Titans to manage the workings of the universe, indirectly points to the need for technological advancement, if we are to enter into these deep and abyss like realms of knowledge, where Gods of the dark or abyss reside. And when we enter their domain, the best prayer would be to venture into this unknown realm with full preparation and complete knowledge of all the possibilities that we may encounter. And in case of the Titan Sub, where 5 valuable lives were lost, almost no heed was paid to this fact of the deep and merciless ocean.

And before I proceed any further with this blog post, I feel the need to write an ode in honour of the 5 occupants of the Titan sub, who lost their lives.

An Ode to The Occupants of The Titan Sub

In the depths where everything is dark,

Nothing exists and one tends to lose every mark,

Of the reality that lies above,

And the memories of the ones you love,

Appear to float by like voluptuous sirens,

And you think of the benevolent Titans,

Then as the pressure mounts you hear a creaking sound,

Slowly building up inside the hollow chamber where now only fear does abound,

Then as your heart races and it does frantically pound,

You feel you are to an unknown and impending doom bound,

And you summon all your Gods in the form of your fears,

And you gauge the ferocity of all the snares,

Building from above, bottom, left and right,

It is then you hold your equally fearful companion’s hand tight,

And you remember all that you loved and those you still love,

But they are far up and above, and you are here in the abyss now,

Where darkness spreads endlessly and the creaking sound becomes louder,

And all of a sudden you feel you are hit by a titanic sized aqueous boulder,

Everything implodes, but only your heart and your memories explode,

As they surface on the horizon of perception and your loved ones rush to the abode,

Of the Gods where castles of prayers are erected,

Prayers rising from the heart that gods have not defected,

There they rush, and implore,

But the Titans become quieter and they think Gods too ignore,

The cries of the lamenting and remorseful heart,

But little do they know praying is not an art,

It is a feeling sublime and serene that arises from within,

And when expressed with sincerity in the universe its resonance does deepen,

And then Gods respond with care,

And they always say, “darling, there is nothing to fear.”

This sounds assuaging for many reasons, known and unknown,

And your kin and kith experience the familiarity in these consolations offered by the unknown,

And to the five departed adventurers of the deep sea,

I hope in their Heavenward journey, now they shall new wonders see,

And be the part of a greater adventure,

That I call the God’s enterprising venture,

As for the wonder of the abyss,

There shall always be someone who for its thrill would miss,

Anything and everything else,

Because if he/she doesn't, then he/she will be someone else,

That is why they dare to take on the Gods of the dark and deep,

Because human passion is something that into the soul does seep,

And unless tasted and confronted, this adventurer residing within the soul does not let him/her to sleep,

So let me wish the 5 adventurers all the best on their new journey,

Where there is no need for submersibles for in that world one attains natural buoyancy, and this too is one hell of a journey!

As for those woe struck loved ones still residing in the realm of gravity,

I hope they find assuaging moments in their thoughtful proclivity,

Where they notice the universe flowing through their departed and loved one,

Because every adventure is an expression of belief in love for someone,

That someone who does not fear the abyss,

That someone who dares to be the one, and never miss,

The adventures that await him/her in those unknown realms,

Where even the Titans sometimes bear signs of qualms,

There let us go and seek the knowledge that awaits to reveal itself,

Only if the adventurer believes in himself/herself,

And I think that is where all 5 adventurers can always be found,

In the realm of the Titans where knowledge does abound, where knowledge does abound!

When I read the news about the Titan Sub’s implosion, I felt a deep wave of grief flowing through me, and for a moment I questioned my love for reading science fiction novels. Where abyss like adventures abound and they present themselves as that calling from the destiny that awaits the adventurer in each one of us. The adventurer who wants to explore the unseen and dive into the unknown with a memory of an instinct that feels so familiar and known, and urges the adventurer to hitch his/her thoughts to this time machine, where the destination is always a new adventure waiting to be experienced.

But it also cautions that science fiction lies in the boundary of “fiction,” at many a time “fantasy fiction.” And it is upto the reader and the adventurer within the reader, that he/she is able to tell fiction and reality apart. Because without this due diligence an adventure is most likely to end up as a tragedy.

And drawing from this thought it would make sense that in future security measures and safety alternatives that would help the adventurers of the deep to avert such a tragic end, are included and not overlooked. Then maybe, infinite hopes, wishes, desires and many more adventures will not suffocate and succumb to the pressure of the abyss.

To satisfy the spirit of this blog post, I will keep it exclusively as an ode for the adventurers who were the true heroes of the abyss, where Poseidon, behind the veil of the darkness bowed before their courage and the explorer residing in them was exalted to dwell among the Titans who dare to accomplish the extraordinary!

I have every reason to believe that as the submersible must have imploded, the bottom of the sea must have gone silent for a moment and it must have paid its befitting homage to the 5 adventurers who explored the abyss in such proximity.

On this note, and with hope, that in future with advanced technology, such tragedies will be avoided; and the adventurers who have this compulsive habit of challenging the Titans of the abyss, will have all the quality tested means to become their facilitators in quenching their desire for adventure, that somehow always manages to seek the ones with the right valour, who then become limitless in their adventure.

Rest in peace the famous five:

  • Hamish Harding

  • Stockton Rush

  • Paul-Henri Nargeolet

  • Shahzada Dawood and Dawood's 19-year-old son Suleman

PS. This blog post belongs to the most rare of men/women. Perhaps not one of them is yet alive. First the day after tomorrow must come for me. Some brave men/women are born posthumously.
