It is 2075 and the future is not here yet. That ultimate future where humans will be able to predict everything and even decide their destinies. With such accuracy that it will be as certain as the change of seasons and the sunrise that is followed by the sunset. In 2075, humans are very close to achieving this utopia like perfection in almost everything. But for some reason it tends to be an evasive future, because in 2075, human society and humans as well, have been hacked!

Hacked. Yes, that is correct!

With exponential growth of technology and population explosion, the Earth in 2075 is expected to generate resources for more than 9 billion people. And among these, almost 14% are neo humans. Humans who have achieved ultimate augmentation by syncing their brains with artificial intelligence. They are superior in many ways:

• They think quicker

• They process data at much faster rate

• They live longer

• Their knowledge is endless

• They directly sync with intelligent networks

• And a lot more

• They receive intelligent data feeds on daily basis 

And they lead a life of luxury and riches, only because they form the Elite class of the society in 2075. 

But what about the remaining 86% of the population?

Well they are distraught and they do not lead a life of complete luxury. They lead a life of day to day hopes, day to day needs, but somehow; to most of them it seems this is how it has always been and how it is meant to be. And they find nothing hideous or objectionable about this lifestyle.

However, in 2075 there are many from this ordinary class of men and women who feel they are being hoodwinked and misled. Because they cannot access all facilities that the Elite class is able to access. Take for example: state of the art health care facilities, clean air, eco friendly and smart cities and a lot more. Most of this is a dream for this remaining population of 86%.

They do not lead a squalid life at all, but they do not lead a special and privileged life either. And this is what is beginning to seek root in the minds of few people. At the moment they are not questioning the existing societal distinction between them and the Elite class. But they are questioning the Hobson’s choice being offered to them when it comes to availing facilities and necessities. And most of the time they have to be content with what they get.

They live in places where air quality is poor, health care facilities are in shambles, water quality is not the one meant to meet human standards of hygiene and purity. And this is the reason the mortality rate is very high in this section of the population. The majority of the population. And for the Elites this is nothing but a hinterland from where they seek just one thing: The mutants!

Based on the calculations of the AI system owned by the Elites, many humans in this ordinary and not so significant population have mutated and developed traits that one day would offer them superiority over the Elite society, who by now are excessively dependent on AI and the intelligence augmentation achieved by them by syncing their brains with intelligent chips. As the Elites achieved refinements in this technology and got dependent on it, their children developed an incurable deformity. Their brains shrank and their ability to organically process queries reduced considerably, to the extent that without auxiliary means of processing data, their brains were unable to absorb information and then process it. Their neurons had lost the ability to fire up in sequences leading to intellectual and scientific thinking. Because with intelligence augmentation they had forgotten to imagine, to think, to ponder, to wonder, to feel, to love, to smile, to form true relationships and everything else that contributes to the development of the human brain. And this is beginning to worry the Elite society because they have no cure for it as of now. And if they disconnect from the neural network, their society will be rendered defunct and totally paralysed. 

Moreover, they have developed conditions which make them vulnerable in the open and natural ecosystem of the Earth. This too is beginning to worry the Elite society.

According to their advanced AI models, if they disengage from the neural network it will take them more than 200 years to regain their organic human capabilities with brain power that equals that of a fully developed human mind. And this is beginning to worry most of them.

But in the so called down trodden section of the population, few of them are working on a different kind of neural network. It too engages the human mind but it does not invade its individual capacity to think and grow, and this intelligent network is proving to be far more efficient than the neural network owned by the Elite society.

Few hideous minded men from Elite society want to hack into this network and understand its model and execution mechanism. They attempt it on January 15th, 2075, but they are unable to penetrate this unbreachable network because it does not use conventional fire wall protection. Instead it uses relays of networks traversing through the main network and keeps it protected all the time. Because the virus or code that is meant to hack the main network is always trapped in these continuous relays of protective networks. And this leaves the Elite society fretting and fuming.

Nevertheless, something amazing has been achieved by the scientists who belong to this remaining population of 86%. By tracking the origin of the virus or the network that attempted to hack into their network, they have released a virtual network capable of mimicking any network without being traced. With this they have managed to travel into the core of the Elite network and now the minds and so called thinking mega cities of the Elite have been completely hacked. Because a mind that uses an intelligent network to gain extra power to process information, by virtue of making a virtual thinking brain a part of its organic brain, makes itself Hackable. Thus giving rise to something called “a hackable brain!”

Welcome to 2075, where they can even hack your mind, your body, your thoughts, your views, your actions and your dreams and desires. And the network that powers this Elite society and their every achievement today lies in a state of complete inaction. Almost like an elephant trunk that has forgotten the use of a few of its muscles. 

( By the way, an elephant calf takes almost 8 months or more than a year to train the muscles of its trunk in order to perform various tasks. And the human mind is like this elephant trunk. The more you use it the better it gets. And the intelligence augmentation had undoubtedly offered it the most advanced computational capabilities, but the Elite used it in haste and they did not consider the biological and other physical aspects involved in the development of the human brain. And this is where it has led them today. 

A generation of children who have developed brains that have shrunk and cannot process even simple calculations. It would not be incorrect to say that these children are the living replicas of homo sapiens from the Palaeolithic age. 

A phenomenal technology that had every potential to evolve the human mind into a super brain that would solve all mysteries of the universe. Due to negligence and inadequate attention to the important details has led to something called “Reverse Evolution of the human brain!” Because evolution works based on two factors:

1- Need

2- Purpose

And by incorrect and hasty implementation of intelligence augmentation the Elites eliminated both: need and purpose from the brain. And as future generations of the Elite assumed important roles in the community they failed because their organic brains lost the capacity to think and process data independently. And now they are a mere representation of their synthetic or augmented brains. And seeing these children and youngsters in this state of helplessness is a heartbreaking sight.) 

But after being hacked, there is hope that the Elite will integrate with the main population and together they will find solutions via a neural network that is non-invasive and still offers the human mind the capability to think like Titans. It is possible, just like I believe, computers and smartphones are old technology now, it is time to develop a revolutionary thinking machine that is everything there is about smart technology, and it can be achieved easily, now that we have so much technology available today. And to begin with, a perfect and non-invasive neural network is the right step in this direction, but it will depend on the cooperation being offered by the Elite. We may have to wait for a while, because adjusting with a new environment can be peevish and few still may consider it to be a sacrilege.

As the Elite and the ordinary population are learning to live in the world of equals, there is still a strong propensity that there will arise moments of conflict. And keeping these scenarios in mind, I wrote my science fiction novel titled, They Loved in 2075. In this intensely romantic science fiction novel there too is an Elite class, and there are two communities with few gifted individuals. And war has broken out between the self aware machines and humans who still wish to retain their original emotions and human-like feelings. Because they still value human relationships and the magic of a kiss.
