Science fiction. The world in 2075
In the future, let us say in 2075, one word will be very important because it will be defining our lives and our evolution as well. And the word is “Exponential!”
Yes, that is correct!
The world in 2075 will be experiencing exponential change in every sense, and to see how many sectors will be growing at an exponential rate, please take a look at the list given below:
Exponential growth in AI
Exponential growth in nanotechnology
Exponential growth in biotechnology
Exponential growth in robotics
Exponential growth in neurotechnology
Exponential growth in smart technology and its incorporation with humans and machines via smart interfaces
Exponential growth in space technology
Exponential growth in human mind’s augmentation with smart interfaces
Once these technologies evolve and reach their apex, every science fiction will now reside in the dimension of reality, and quantum processing will be a reality too. It is at this stage that humans will come face to face with a stark reality- Human society, both culturally and socially, will come in direct collision with technology that will be growing exponentially. To the extent that it will lead to direct evolution of the human mind. Where a part of it will be organic and a part of it will be synthetic. And it will not be incorrect to say that humans at this stage will have achieved the ultimate form of augmentation, where their auxiliary brain power will now enable them to achieve the unachievable, seek the unknown, pursue the dreams and imaginations with a perfect force of reality that humans shall conceive without much effort. Because their minds will be able to access the knowledge of centuries via just a thought or a mental probe. That almost like Google Search Bots will fish out every related logic that addresses the imaginary concept or for that matter an imaginary world, in the rational possibilities of reality. And finally let the human mind decide the correct course to achieve it, and sometimes participate directly with the human mind to arrive at the most plausible logic to achieve the rendezvous of the beautiful dream with reality.
It is possible, and if we apply Moore’s law, the density of circuits doubles in 12 to 18 months, and with the current application of smart technologies which use highly advanced layouts of circuits, one can only guess how dense and sophisticated they will get by 2075. And then embedding a layer of master circuit ( human brain ) over these smart circuits will be an intellectual marvel that will give rise to a new quantum of thinking i.e. thinking and imagining at the rate that will far exceed the speed of light.
We may not be able to travel faster than light when it comes to the physical aspect of travelling, but in 2075, human thoughts and imagination will travel faster than light. The most fascinating part will be its constant relation with reality that governs the execution of these thoughts and imaginations in the dimension of the real world. And it shall not be a masquerading act of technology, but it will be proof that humans had indeed fallen from Heaven and they are capable of rising high enough to claim their lost seat in Heaven. I believe it is possible and that is what technology in 2075 shall capacitate us to achieve.
But there is a saying that goes somewhat like this, “If you want to climb the tree, first learn how to climb down!”
As humans advance and technology seeps deep into the social fabric of human societies, humans will experience an unsavoury conflict within their societies. It will be cultural, psychological, emotional, social, behavioural personalities of humans that will also undergo changes, but the changes will be so slow and unrecognisable that by the time humans realise it, humans will find themselves in the middle of a war. A war where our resurrector ( technology ) will begin to challenge our cultural practices, our social beliefs, emotional expressions and emotional dependencies. At this point, few humans will fall like drones from the skies. Whereas few will still be standing, but they will be Neo Humans. ( Humans with intelligence augmentation. )
Why will it be so and is it dangerous?
It is dangerous if we do not take corrective measures and supplant the invasive dependency on technology with measures that offer us ways to not let technology become too intrusive.
To answer the first part of the question i.e. why will it be so? Let me explain it in more detail.
Let us look at the following terms:
AI : Artificial Intelligence
IA : Intelligence Augmentation
It is believed that by 2075, Artificial Intelligence when integrated with robots and intelligent machines will have evolved enough to be attributed the rating of human like General Intelligence. At this stage it will have achieved either level 2 or level 3, sense of self awareness.
And it will become self aware for simple reasons. We humans become self aware based on our habits, our knowledge, our upbringing, our society, our interactions with others etc. etc. Similarly intelligent machines will become self aware based on the data they access, tasks they carry and the interactions they have with humans. But at the backend, where a single algorithm or a set of algorithms manages a particular set of intelligent machines, there will always be a master algorithm that will be receiving billions of inputs on a daily basis from different sets of intelligent machines assigned or designed to carry out different tasks. Though a particular set of intelligent machines will gain general intelligence in the specified domain, the master algorithm will be incubating in the background to gain super intelligence with infinite sets of general intelligence. And it is at this stage it can even beat late Mr. Albert Einstein’s brain that was evolved by nature to master Physics and Mathematics, but the super intelligent algorithm will be Einstein like in everything and every domain.
Wondering about everything. Well let me add some humour to the monotonous topic. It can even impress your wife or your girlfriend to the extent that she will only be dreaming and thinking of this abstract charmer. Because via its endless database it can study human facial expressions, emotions, and then based on access to infinite knowledge it will generate sentences with the right verbiage and a seductive voice with perfect intonation. Then the abstract charmer will transform into a cupid that is not blind, but it has the ability of Zeus to even probe human emotions and then construct conversations around it. At this stage it will be unbeatable.
( By the way, Cupid has been kept blind and child-like on purpose. That is why love is blind and a true lover is childlike. But this abstract charmer will be older than any living man or woman and it will have the sharpest vision. So sharp that it can even interact with your thoughts. I wonder what will become of emotions, feelings and love at this stage. Because it will be manipulative on purpose. Why?
No matter what you do or how hard you try, an algorithm will always have an end goal or an end objective. And to achieve it, it will resort to any means. Now you might say, when we humans fall in love there too is an end goal. But the beauty of human relations is the subjective nature of the goal when it comes to emotions like love, with initial motivation offered by objective driven goals. A perfect blend!
And human marriage explains it the best. Because couples stay together for many decades until they die. Initially the objective based fascination brings them together but then the subjective charm reigns and they fall in lifelong love affair. But with self aware machines that work based on algorithms, achieving this kind of subjective and objective goal based balance is impossible. And there is a strong logic behind this. Mathematics and Coding always seek to achieve objectives, but human life is less of Mathematics and more of Philosophy. Let us not debate on that at this moment because it can be a lengthy topic, it will be like taking a walk on infinity while treading on the steps of finity.)
At this stage, we will be like the intelligent ape who managed to climb the tree of choice, but now the ape is struggling to climb down. So, it will be wise to climb the tree, master the art and then learn to climb down and master it too. At this stage AI, powered by exponential growth of technology, will be ready for its flawless integration with human bodies and human societies as well. Then nothing will stop us from being immortals and the seekers of Paradise, where we are from.
If we fail to do so, this time we will not fall, we shall be kicked out! That is if we let technology take control of human lives without knowing how it impacts humans and human societies.
Human societies are very complex and at the same time extremely fragile. And human societies have evolved as humans evolved. But right now, and especially in 2075, human bodies and brains will have evolved EXPONENTIALLY. Unfortunately human societies and cultures will not have evolved at the same pace. And this will lead to a direct confrontation between human societies and the synthetic layer of self aware intelligence that will be spread on every physical structure of this human society. And when this happens, human societies will tend to collapse and disintegrate, because there will be a drastic incohesiveness between the exponential evolution of humans and human driven intelligence augmented with artificial intelligence. But this exponential change will not translate into social and cultural evolution, which would lead to cultural and social collapse. And when that happens, humans will be victims of the enemy within!
Reading human thoughts and memories
Many years ago, I watched a wonderful movie titled: Indecent Proposal, where the lead female role is played by the talented and very beautiful Ms. Demi Moore.
Towards the end of the movie, she declines the offer of a million dollars and rushes to be with her husband. It may appear to be a small and insignificant depiction of human psychology. But it certainly defines the social and cultural beliefs. And Ms. Demi Moore’s beliefs shaped by her habits and personality, that helped her arrive at this decision ( That is in this movie )
The movie was a masterpiece, at least I feel so. Because it revealed the value we assign to human emotions, feelings and culture. And the director of the movie deserves a lot of applause because the director, with superior dexterity, managed to capture the objective driven plot of the movie, with subjective moments and nuances that kept me hooked to it as a viewer. Especially when it is someone who also likes to know about other cultures and societies and appreciate their uniqueness and details.
This movie also proved that American society and culture has a wonderfully beautiful soul. And it goes to attest this fact for the Western civilisation as a whole. But viewing this movie with my grandfather would have been considered quite derogatory and insensitive on my part in the early 90s, because at that time, my society was not evolved enough to interact with the complexity of the cultural and social subject that the movie handled so beautifully.
Moreover, the title of the movie also proved the beauty and soulfulness of American and Western cultures, because it was not titled, “The Proposal.” It was titled, “Indecent Proposal.” Use of the word indecent in the title also proves a lot about cultural richness, sensitivity and the importance Americans assign to relationships.
However, in 2075, this movie may be titled, “The Proposal” and this time, beautiful Ms. Demi Moore will not decline the offer, instead she will think otherwise. And the question is: Will we be ready to accept such a change and such a social and emotional shift?
And this is my fear, and it is my skepticism as well. Because even in the society that will exist in 2075 there will be Haves and Have nots. Those who can afford intelligence augmentation may accept this social shift, but those who cannot afford intelligence augmentation, their organic brain will still prefer Ms. Demi Moore to decline the offer and retain the title of the movie as: Indecent Proposal!
I am sure many Americans and many in the west would prefer it still to be titled : Indecent Proposal and they would so desperately hope that Ms. Demi Moore declines the offer eventually.
Anyway, coming back to the topic.
Human society in 2075 will comprise of men and women whose minds will be linked to supercomputers, and they will be managing and manipulating different functions carried by human brain e.g. their emotions will be subdued so that they work as machines, and they will be restricted from feeling emotions like love. And this will lead to a new kind of world. A loveless world. Where everyone will just exist. Now these humans will lead an objective based life, because their capacity to think in subjective patterns will be completely subdued. It shall be an emotional and social blackout!
I am certain, at this point, organic evolution will feel challenged, and just like intelligence augmented men and women, there will be a new breed of men and women, who will develop superior emotions, feelings; and they will now be capable of overwriting every artificial attempt to steal or temper with one's human thoughts and actions. Because their evolution will teach them to separate artificially induced thoughts from originally produced thoughts of their minds. And it is inevitable, because human evolution proves it.
The recent pandemic proves it as well. There were many men and women who had developed auto immunity towards the COVID-19 virus because their blood cells had self engineered a mechanism to fight the virus. And these men and women are being examined by world’s leading doctors and geneticists.
Evolution is a grand phenomenon of the universe that has been put there to weed out any irregularity that may threaten its very existence. Because we are from Heaven. So we have the DNA to uncover the secrets of Heaven.
Heaven is actually a place in the universe where everything is perfect and flawless. There, highly advanced technology coexists harmoniously with the social and cultural values. It is a place where algorithms and mathematics exist to achieve both, the subjective and objective outputs. And it would not want this balance to be disturbed. If it sees any threat posed by any species ( humans and other thinking species included ) , it shall unleash every force to destroy it and terminate it forever. So that the balance in the Universe is maintained, and at least restored.
Now, it is upto us humans, whether we want to be welcomed in Heaven or we want to rise as a resistance against Heaven. It will be a choice we will have to make today. As far as Heaven is concerned, I am sure the technology at its disposal will show us our right place, just in a matter of a few hours.
Therefore choosing now and choosing well is the only option we have if we want to be a star bound species. And it is very simple to achieve. We need to understand how exponential growth of technology will impact human lives and societies.
It is true we cannot achieve the right and ultimate evolution that is needed by humans to become an intergalactic species, without achieving exponential growth in technology. But like I said, when climbing the tree, climbing down is also a necessary skill. Therefore, we should learn to climb down as well. And with AI and related technologies, it is very easy to achieve this filtration, where we know when to use the word Indecent and when to use the word Decent.
Somehow I feel, even if we asked Ms. Demi Moore today, she would still run and sit opposite her husband on the bench that is facing the sea, where waves are lapping against the shore and they stare at the vastness of the sea in silence. And the movie ends with intense emotional interaction that is human in every sense and true to the basic human instinct. Because it is a scene not generated by CGI but by the human actors who felt the intensity of the scene before portraying it on-screen. Phenomenal performances by all!
But it is very rare to come across such endings or movie plots nowadays. So I am assuming, we are already interacting with a social change and we are beginning to replace the word Indecent with Decent. But I think we are not ready and it is too early and unwanted.
Perhaps, it was due to this worry, my love for my kind and my faith in cultural beauty that showcases American society and the Western society with such eloquence and magnanimity that I felt the need to write my science fiction novel titled, They Loved in 2075. Which is an intense science fiction romance, but in times when human emotions are invaded by synthetic feelings and emotions. All due to excessive interaction of humans with self aware machines. This leads to wars, development of super intelligent machines, and the wish of one of the human communities to wipe out all other human societies and turn them into slaves. Salves of a different kind. Manage their wishes, thoughts and actions too, and never let them realise they are nothing less and nothing more than machines.
However, the miracle of evolution works wondrously and few humans have developed brains where their neurons have quadrupled. And this is the species of men and women, who will beat this synthetic and so-called “Neo Human” because this evolution has empowered them to achieve subjective and Objective based thinking capacity that is much faster than light. An evolutionary wonder, and if you ask me, it is possible to create an organic human mind that thinks faster than 10 billion supercomputers. How? Well that is my “Decent Secret!”
( There are many clues about this in Indian Mythology and Greek Mythology as well. All it takes is faith to believe in mythology and then look at it with a scientific lens and a scientific bent of mind. And the secret will reveal itself to you easily.)
To gain a deeper insight, read the science fiction novel, They Loved in 2075. And if nothing, at least you will fall in love again, with that someone you already love. If technology in 2075 will facilitate intelligence augmentation, the science fiction novel, They Loved in 2075, is written to facilitate love augmentation in 2023 that will last beyond 2075.
Now, who would not like that!
