Science fiction Aerial Collision

It was a fully grown, crimson red, dragon fly; that was flying freely over a long stretch of a public park. When a sparrow that was flapping its wings dashed against the free spirited dragon fly, and it lost control of its sequential wing flapping, and crashed on a flower, that was there waiting for its reception. While the sparrow who realised what had happened, carried on with its journey. Without bothering about the dragon fly that had just crashed on the flower; and it lay their almost motionless. Though not lifeless.

Then after a few minutes, something breathed vigour into it, it stirred a bit, and the pollen dust created a plume of yellow particles over its wing span, that stirred once again. And the yellow cloud of pollen dust, rose a bit higher. It was an amazing scene to witness, where the pollen dust was continuously being tossed up and then as it were about to alight on the wings of the dragon fly, it flapped its wings and the yellow dust rose higher. It was symphony of different nature, where the air was the medium and the wings of the dragon fly were the orchestra master.

Nobody noticed it, but the flower that cushioned the dragon fly’s fall witnessed this miracle of life. Where life was unwilling to give up, unwilling to yield, because it knew it had new heights to fly unto, it had many new flights to bear, it still had the will to flap its wings a billion times, before it was time for the dragon fly to find its final resting place. Where the time would then wrap him in its cocoon and bury him in the soil. At this moment the dragon fly shall return to the world where one is not required to flap wings in order to fly, because there, flight is borne via wishes, and wishes arise from every desire to fly, and fly high. For the dragon fly, it shall be the final flight of freedom, the flight where it shall be set free to fly without flapping its wings.

However, right now, it is stirring, it is moving and using every instinct of survival to gather enough force to flap its wings and rise higher than now settled plume of yellow pollen dust. And few of these yellow granules had settled on his crimson red body and silver like wings. As if waiting, to be cast high into the air and proclaim dragon fly’s triumph over time that was trying to tame its flight, put restraint on its passion for life, kill its desire to be with the beautiful dragon fly that somewhere, is flying towards him. Riding not the currents of the wind, but the waves of time, that are bound to cause another collision. Only that this time it shall be the collision of love, collision of meeting the one you so deeply adore and wish to be with. A collision of passionate feelings before the dragon fly meets its final destiny and surrenders to be encapsulated in the cocoon of time. To be still and motionless for ever, but free to fly anywhere in the world where gravity and reality exist in a completely different form.

And indeed, the dragon fly moved its wings rigorously and the yellow pollen grains got cast into the air, happily dancing with every sun beam and singing in chorus:

“The dragon fly,

That is born to fly,

Will always fly,

As long as it is willing to try,

And here is our loved dragon fly,

Assumed dead, but about to fly,

Defying death and time it is already airborne and about to fly,

Our darling and crimson red dragon fly!”

And as the dragon fly shook its wings with great force and lifted itself from the flower, it hovered over it in a mysterious and ritual like air borne dance. A symbolic acknowledgement of the flower’s hospitality and patience. Then realising that his acknowledgement was sensed by the flower, it dived a bit closer to the flower, sniffing its scent it again flapped its wings and rose higher and higher, and now it was bound to kiss its destiny with the passion of a dragon fly, that is alive and still willing to move its wings a billion times.

For the dragon fly and for all living beings, just like us, the so called thinking beings, every flight is a flight of passion, where the reason of flight is the inner calling that awaits us all. How far we are willing to go in order to fulfil this calling is a subjective topic that requires an objective based mindset, if it is to be accomplished.

Then we will always find a flower to cushion our fall and yellow pollen dust to excite us enough to stir into action. But it can happen that when the dragon fly is air borne, it crashes into a sparrow, and when it falls from the sky, there is no flower to hold it. But the dragon fly by its instinct knows that the gravity will always hold it eventually. That is why nature has designed it in a way, that no matter how high it flies in the sky, if it falls, the gravity will always be its flower of faith, that will never confound it or crush it. But it will always fall like a feather, unscathed and unhurt.

At this stage, in case of the fallen dragon fly it is upto the dragon fly to try and move its wings and cast the plume of hope little higher. In other words, it has to try to fly again. Because the sky is waiting to witness its majestic flight, the time has spread its waves to lead him unto the beautiful dragon fly, flying towards him. It just needs to believe it can fly.

The dragon fly has to realise that whatever it believes in, depends very much upon what it is. And it is a dragon fly indeed born to fly as long as it lives. But, all dragon flies do not realise this fact of their lives.

They may have strong physical wings but few of them possess frail spirits to fly, and these are two counter acting forces. Where the force of wings is keen and restless to bear flight, but the force that arises from spirit, is so weak that inspite of its ability to flap its wings, the dragon fly cannot rise high enough to leave the ground and reach for the sky.

So it creates a dragon fly, that could never fly, though by nature it was designed to fly and fly very high. Even for nature's most magnificent creations built to fly, realising that there is no road or a preset course to success. But only through strong and clear purpose will it be able to achieve its destiny bound flight is a very important realisation if the dragon fly is to experience the pleasure of flying.

It is in this pursuit of flight, where physical wings couple with the wings of a strong spirit to lift us higher than the skies, into the skies of the Heavens, where new and bold cosmic secrets wait to be uncovered by a curious, but bold mind; that I wrote the science fiction novel, They Loved in 2075. A science fiction romance where love is everywhere in 2075, yet if viewed closely it is nowhere. A tragedy that the lead character of the science fiction novel, They loved in 2075 has to deal with. It is a strong scifi romance where human emotions have a collision with synthetic emotions expressed by self aware machines in 2075. And this adds a very different layer of romance to the science fiction novel: They Loved in 2075.

And I am sure, when you conclude reading the science fiction novel, They Loved in 2075, you will admit, “tenderness is the repose of love.”
