Science fiction - Ideas

Science fiction - Ideas

There is fiction and there is science fiction. Although they have fiction in common, word, science is what makes all the difference. A fiction without science is as good as fantasy, but fiction with a strong blend of science and scientific logic is as good as reality, only that it takes a genius to see the possibility of believing in the proposed idea and make it tangible with the existing reality of science and scientific knowledge surrounding that topic.

I believe before the invention of wheel, if someone spoke of it and its uses, others might have thought of that person to be either eccentric or someone who likes to dwell too much in fiction, than in reality. But the fact is, wheel did somehow manage to move away from the shadowy existence in fiction to become an integral part of reality and revolutionise not just a sector or industry, but human life as whole.

I had a similar argument with a friend of mine couple of days ago and according to him, science fiction is nothing but someones imagination that dares to be too bold. Nothing else!

We had an elaborate discussion on this topic, and I felt a sincere need to express my protest because I do not believe science fiction is just about imagination that dares to be too bold. In reality, it is scientific imagination that is resting on logical parameters, only that in the reality to which we belong, there are either no means or insufficient means to test the credibility of the idea.

Take for example our struggle to understand the Dark Matter and Dark Energy, it is not palpable, it cannot be seen, it does not reflect light, it does not behave the way we know most of the particles to behave. So, does it mean it does not exist or it simply proves as of today ( in 2023 ) we do not have the resources and scientific knowledge to understand their behaviour, although, we are sure there is something that holds this universe together, apart from the gravity. Yet, there are many brave scientists who believe in the reality of the Dark Matter and Dark Energy, and that is why they have devoted their lives at CERN to understanding the nature of Dark Matter and Dark Energy.

With billions of dollars invested on this project, then one should say they have invested this money in fiction. But it is not so at all.

Now imagine thinking about a scientific marvel like CERN in 1925. Everyone, including few pessimists from scientific community would believe that this person is hysterical or he/she believes more in fiction than in reality.

And when I offered similar references to my friend, he did agree that many ideas proposed in science fiction, with right resources and advanced scientific knowledge, followed by perseverance, can be achieved in reality. But it took me a lot of time to convince him, although he is a highly educated person and he is not averse to reasoning. But when it comes to science fiction, many people enter into a mindset that it is all about fictitious ideas and wild scientific imagination that has to relation with reality. Which is not true, because before the Big Bang, even reality resided in the realm of fiction, because light did not exist and neither did time, it was a state of perpetual non existence. But with the Big Bang, reality emerged because time and light, along with forces like gravity and other forces made reality perceivable.

When it comes to few readers, who believe that science fiction is all about an overdose of imaginary science, a Big Bang at intellectual level, can make a huge difference, and dispel the clouds of doubt, that alienate them from the beautiful and scientifically verifiable aspect of some of the brilliant scientific ideas proposed in science fiction novels.

Take for example, the science fiction novel, They Loved in 2075, where the plot of the story revolves around two lovers struggling to express human like emotions in 2075. But it is not a scifi novel that is all about romance, it also discusses many bold scientific ideas that with right scientific knowledge can be reproduced in reality, only that sometimes, it takes a genius like Einstein or Newton to work on them with an obsession of two lovers. And then these fiction kissed ideas, begin to take shape in reality, while obeying every aspect of reality, whether scientific or other physical components of reality that must be satisfied for any scientific idea to be proven right.

And the science fiction novel, They Loved in 2075, talks of few wonderful scientific ideas, that may appear to be too futuristic, but then if we look at it, even future, every tomorrow is a fiction, because we have not seen them either. But we know future is real because tomorrow is real. Sometimes, believing in something or believing in someone is what makes that big difference.

Maybe that is the reason Agassi said, "Every great scientific truth goes through three stages. First, people say it conflicts with the Bible. Next they say it had been discovered before. Lastly, they say they always believed it."

And a science fiction writer and true science fiction reader, belongs to the believing category of men and women. Because they know, just like science is organised knowledge, the ideas proposed in scifi novels, are organised scientific thoughts and concepts. They just need a little bit re-adjustment in order to exist in reality and not just in fiction.

I am sure, just like my friend, you too would enjoy the brave ideas proposed in science fiction novel, They Loved in 2075!

To know how brave these ideas are, please feel free to explore the science fiction novel, They Loved in 2075.
