Best modern sci fi books

Sci fi books always tend to relate our imagination with the world, or worlds that could exist, and superior scientific possibilities that might be a reality in future. It is a fascinating world where you as a reader exist in those cascading moments where reality is chasing time onboard the super fast train that is future bound. And the final destination is actually a reckoning with one's own self. Where, he/she as a reader is cast in the world of this sci fi book, to decide for himself/herself, what might exist in reality, when reality stops chasing moments of time onboard the super fast train. It is a wonderful duality based existence of reality, where part is real and part is fictitious, and it is upto the reader to disentangle the two, based on his/her knowledge and understanding of the facts.

Facts that can separate the real from the unreal and facts that grow under the aegis of known and verifiable spectrum of reality on Earth. This is one of the many fascinating aspects of science fiction that leads the reader into the gymnasium of mind, where he/she is involved in neural pushups, whereby the ultimate formation of the muscle of reality, asserts itself in ways and possibilities never experienced before. This is one of the most magical experiences offered by science fiction novels, which are crafted in the pantheon of imaginary genius without lacking scientific validation; that is, in most of the cases.

But does this attribute alone go into the making of the best sci fi book, or there is more to it? More than this imaginary genius that nestles in the logical firmament of scientific validation.

To be honest, at this point I sense the inadequacy of my explanation to convey the substrate of my thoughts as far as writing a best sci fi book is concerned. And to overcome this handicap, I am taking the liberty to quote H. More:

“Many works of fiction may be read with safety; some even with profit; but the constant familiarity, even with such as are not exceptionable in themselves, relaxes the mind, which needs hardening; dissolves the heart, which wants fortifying; stirs the imagination, which wants quieting; irritates the passions, which want calming; and, above all, disinclined and disqualifies for active virtues and for spiritual exercise. The habitual indulgence in such reading, is a silent mining mischief. Though there is no act, and no moment,  in which any open assault on the mind is made, yet the constant habit performs the work of a mental atrophy- it produces all the symptoms of decay; and the danger is not less for being more gradual, and therefore less suspected.”

And it is more applicable on the reader with a strong affinity towards science fiction books. And reading them with safety should be the chief priority. Because there are many sci fi books that deal with concepts like : zero gravity, and sometimes the main character jumps from an incredible height, and somehow via his/her specially designed suit lands on the surface unscathed. And if the sci fi reader is dwelling excessively on the reality like narrative of the sci fi book, and attempts a similar adventure in the reality of his/her planet i.e. Earth. We all know what gravity will do to him/her when he/she lands on the surface. Thus, it becomes a silent mining mischief almost like placing a cat in the midst of a pigeon flock.

This is where the sci fi book reader has to be cautious and apply his/her practical thought in order to seek the truth that deserves to be cast into the furnace of reality, before accepting it as a scientific truth that holds valid in the reality of the Earth, and can withstand the forces that dictate terms even to the reality that surrounds the Earth. And by nature, men/women are poetical animals and delight in fiction, but delighting in science fiction is completely a different thing. This is a delight that we as readers should indulge in well measured portions and without mixing the reality with fiction.

And it is in this context that many science fiction books take the crown of being the best modern sci fi books. Because they simplify this act of separating fiction from reality, and for the reader they make accepting a few parts of fiction as possibilities that can grow in the womb of reality-  The reality that we are used to, the reality that we are part of, the reality that we know! No matter where we might be, reality always enjoys a sort of hegemony over everything else. Eventually this is what tells the human mind that it is just a dream, a mere creation of one’s imagination, that is influenced by real events and the dreamer’s psychological state.

And when the dreamer wakes up, the dream is nowhere except a very faint and inferior existence in the memories of the dreamer, only to be confounded forever as soon as the dreamer confronts the bright reality with his/her wakeful mind and open eyes.

However, few dreams are worth pursuing and before they are neutralised in the recessive and wakeful cycles of human mind, because they possess that hidden, slightly obscure factor of reality that has the potential to impart a brand new perspective to the reality that we are used to and defines our world.

Many sci fi books breed such dreams, and they always allow the serious sci fi reader to view every facet of the dream in the practical domain of reality where everything exists, the Sun, the Moon, the Earth, the Universe, along with you and me. Perhaps this is why Coleridge said, “Every human feeling is greater and larger than its exciting cause- a proof, I think, that man/woman is designed for a higher state of existence.”

And when interacting with a well written sci book, the feeling that is born is that of adventurous hope to seek a new reality that fits perfectly with the known principles of the reality we live in and live with. A feeling that excites, a feeling that confirms humans are capable of achieving a higher state of existence. Where parts of fiction, and parts of dreams are worth becoming a part of the reality known to us.

At the same time it is true that every sci fi book reader is a genius, in his/her own rights. But among these geniuses just a few manage to abstain from wandering into the maze of logical inconsistencies, and avoid mixing fiction that is afflicted with logical poverty, with scenarios of reality waiting as hangmen to place these logically  impoverished figments of fiction on the noose of reality, where they suffocate gradually, while the reader who is still wandering in the maze of inconsistencies lives on the farce that every fiction is real.

That is when the sci fi book reader starts living in the artificial and unreal world. World where, for a while everything appears real, appears true, a dream that always appears to come true finally, as long as the reader lives in a virtual world, where reality imitates fiction, and the reader seeks pleasure in this act of flattery of reality. And failure to realise this becomes the cause of his/her intellectual decay.

But there are many readers, who on purpose, venture into this maze of inconsistencies, it is their way of making the fiction run the marathon of reality, and reveal the new reality that can calibrate with the known principles of our reality. And this is where that thin and deciding line lies, between a sci fi book reader who knows the difference between fact and fiction, and the one who is lost in the maze of inconsistencies. Without realising that every step taken by him/her is misleading him/her into believing that it is real, whereas it is not.

So, which are the best modern sci fi books that meet these requirements?

Given below is my list:

Children of Time : Adrina Tchaikovsky

The Martian : Andy Weir

The Heart Goes Last : Margaret Atwood

The Power : Naomi Alderman

Borne : Jeff VanderMeer

Exhalation : Ted Chiang

The Resisters : Gish Jen

These are the sci fi books that definitely claim the title of being best modern sci fi books. But, this list is based on my personal taste, my personal likings; and individual tastes tend to vary. And I expect it to be so in this case too. But in this list there are few sci fi book titles that do sound very familiar e.g.

Children of Time, The Martian and Borne.

Here is my compilation of the list of best selling science fiction books of all time. You may want to look at my old blog post that deals with a similar topic. Almost similar, if not exactly the same:

The New York Times Best Sellers List

It deals more with explaining the metrics that The New York Times uses to assign the tag of best seller to a science fiction, or any book for that matter. So, if you have read the blog post, you should have a fair idea as to what qualifies a book to be a bestseller.

With that knowledge in mind, let me share the list of best selling science fiction books of all time.

Best Selling Sci-Fi Books

Now, do you still want to consider the long list of URLs I shared in this blog post, dedicated to listing the best selling science fiction books of all time, or you want to read a science fiction book or books and then decide yourself if it is a best seller for you?

For me the list of best selling science fiction novels always begins and ends with my very personal list of best selling science fiction books i.e.

  • Dune
  • The Time Machine
  • Frankenstein
  • The Martian
  • The Ultimate Hitchhiker’s Guide

It certainly is not a huge and exhaustive list. And this list has not grown for quite some time now. Because the appeal and intrigue of these sci-fi books never fades, and somehow with a penchant of a master writer, these all time best selling science fiction novels always offer something to my scientifically inquisitive mind to feed on.

And they have a very unique quality, by means of which they immediately caution the reader, as soon as he/she treads in the maze of inconsistencies. The writer uses a sort of doorkeeper or a watchman, who is tasked to caution any reader wandering in this maze. And how these master science fiction writers achieve it, is by balancing fiction, reality and the universal variable of human imagination free to roam anywhere in the pastoral land of human mind where grass blades of new ideas keep budding throughout the landscape of readers’ imagination.

But no matter how brilliantly the sci fi author plots his/her sci fi story, it is always upto the reader to make some serious effort to stray away from the lure of science fiction novels, where fiction offers a muddled view of reality that still exists in the realm of pure imagination. And that is why, it becomes important for the sci fi reader to realise one fact: The fruit that can fall without shaking, indeed is too mellow.

What do I mean?

Well, if we consider following sci fi novels:

  • Dune
  • The Time Machine
  • Frankenstein

They offer many instances where the reader is deliberately made to avoid walking into the maze of logical inconsistencies.

For example:

Dune : Inhabitants of different planets are caught in a battle that seems to have no end. Over a simple drug that grows in the sand covered fields of Dune. It is basically something that the monster sized worms protect because their larvae need this to  feed on and grow.

This drug/spice has immense power as far as enhancing neural activity is concerned. So it is considered necessary by many for interplanetary travels, because it improves multidimensional thinking of the mind.

The moment the reader begins imagining about this magical drug found in the sandy depths of Dune, and his/her imagination is about to go wild in the maze of inconsistencies. The writer places reigns on this unnecessary journey of the reader's mind, by explaining the origin of this spice and how the giant worms depend on it for their survival. This drug/spice named Melange is central to the plot of Dune sci fi novel series.

The inhabitants of Dune harvest this spice by mining it from the sand covered plains, but as the demand for this drug increases it puts a lot of pressure on the ecosystem of Dune where these giant worms are essential to maintain the balance. And the giant worms devour mining workers and their machines as well. Because they want to protect their species.

And here, the writer places the reader in the hard core shell of reality, by forcing the reader to think about the dependency of human beings on the ecosystem of the Earth that supports them.

Suddenly the reader realises a few harsh realities like: Global Warming, Climate Change etc. Although these issues were not so prominent when Dune was first published. But during that time the world was experiencing political tensions and situations similar to the ones that are a part of the plot in sci fi novel Dune.

And for a responsible sci fi reader, these are subtle indicators cautioning him/her to stay clear of the maze of inconsistencies. By offering him/her a tender slap of reality!

This is what draws a genius science fiction writer apart from an ordinary sci fi novel writer. Although, towards the end it is always the reader's choice whether he/she wants to reside in the reality of facts or wander in the never ending maze of logical inconsistencies.

Sci fi novels: The Time Machine and Frankenstein offer similar indicators and warnings, that alert the reader to stay clear of these mazes of logical inconsistencies.

Now reverting to the main topic of this blog post i.e. best modern sci fi books. There are many books that offer a glimpse of the world that would exist in 2075, and few of these science fiction novels make this world look quite grotesque.

However, there is one science fiction novel, They Loved in 2075, that is set in 2075, and offers a very engaging view of 2075, while not refraining from asking a few important questions in 2023, that would matter to all of us in 2075.

For example:

How will humans experience love in 2075? This science fiction novel navigates through the possibility of men and women falling in love with machines, without knowing they are robots imitating human emotions. Will you still dare to fall in love in 2075 or will you strive to tell the difference between a human lover and a robotic lover?

This Sci-fi novel tells the story of a man who falls in love with a real woman in 2075. And how he struggles to feel human and keep his emotional composition intact.

This Sci-fi story also aims at revealing why the man chose to love a real woman and not a never ageing and always beautiful woman with synthetic feelings. In 2075, this might be a choice we all will have to make. Especially our children!

And all this via a science fiction that is actually a love story, which dares to predict how human emotions might evolve by 2075, and how humans may experience a situation of emotional blackout. Where they shall be able to feel nothing, and in this state of emotional numbness, what will be the risks and odds that humans will have to battle against, to ensure their survival as a species still capable of loving and feeling!

Therefore, while reading a science fiction novel, it is important to imagine, but a sci fi reader should not wander far away from the facts and reality that governs the workings of the world known to us. Maybe that is why it is said, “We do not keep the outward form of order, where there is deep disorder in the mind!

And a mind that is dragged too far into the maze of inconsistencies, eventually belongs to the science fiction reader who allows his/her mind to be circled by deep disorder, where restoring mental composure that comprehends reality in its true and acceptable forms becomes impossible, because his/her mind has become a part of the science fiction that his/her mind is presently accepting as a state of absolute order. And when this happens, few readers manage to disown this order, and without any deliberation they succeed entering into the order of reality that actually governs their lives. Whereas, a few readers stay in this fiction induced fake order, long after they have read the last page of the science fiction novel. This is when the reader has to make a serious effort to separate real fact based science from science fiction. And this is not easy!

Please read the science fiction novel They Loved in 2075, and let us hope that in 2075, there shall still be enough inward and outward order, for the future generations of human species to experience!

Short science fiction about you

Short science fiction about you

“It is there, it is right there!”

Screamed a voice from behind. As I turned back, there stood a middle aged man, pointing his index finger at a nut, that had fallen from the tree, and he wanted to secure it before anyone else did. By cautioning me about it, he laid his claim on the nut.

It was chestnut. Fully ripe and brown, with a surface that glittered and was highly reflective. It almost slipped from my hand twice. While I was walking towards this middle aged man to let him keep it.

As the man held it and began feeling it with his finger tips. His fingers stopped on feeling a deep crack, he pressed it hard until its seed popped out. Like a pea from the pea pod.

He stared at me, I guess not for more than a few minutes, then as if he had made up his mind. He asked me to take it to the field and sow it there. He could easily make out the stupefied look in my face, and without wasting a moment, he said, “You have to sow it. Because only you can. You are the last one, everyone else I requested has declined my request. So please take it and sow it in that field. But before you do that, look around, and you may realise why I am requesting you to sow it there. Maybe you would, at least that is my hope!”

I took a moment, looked around. I was standing in the middle of a huge grassland, where only this chestnut tree grew, taller than the grass blades. Most of the other chestnut trees had either been cut down in the name of development or they had failed to grow any further due to Global Warming and Climate Change. And when I realised this tragedy, I looked at the chestnut seed in my hand. The future of chestnut trees was not in my hand, but that of Earth and human species, in a way, was certainly in my hand. It was just the matter of taking the right step and acting upon the advice of the stranger.

But right now, in the given situation, we were sharing the same fate, the fate of an uncertain future, the fate of exposing Earth and humans to extremely high heat waves, if we did not act now, and act in time. With this realisation I decided to sow the seed and tend to it; and ensure, at least I plant many more chestnut trees, in the grassland, that once used to be a jungle of trees.

But now, nothing of that true jungle remained, because now it is a jungle of grass and bitter weeds.

Finally I heeded the stranger’s plea and I chose to save the Earth and make the area around me greener and a little cooler. And I thank the stranger for this.

Maybe we all will not come across this stranger, but we all will come across barren lands, treeless pastures, and maybe a chestnut tree, then please do take a moment to look around and plant a few trees. If not many.

Then indeed you shall have played your part well, and hopefully the Earth we let our future generations inherit from us will be less hot. There will still be the chestnut tree and the stranger waiting for somebody to plant his chestnut seeds and allow him to take on more important journeys.

In 2023, when Global Warming is at its maximum and climate change is disrupting lives Globally. It becomes imperative on part of each one of us, that we participate in good change, and contribute towards building a planet that is still green, still clean and still habitable. If we can do this in whatever little measures we can, then please consider you have met the stranger and you have planted his chestnut seed in the most fertile corner of the land. The land of hope, where all of us make this commitment that we will not let the Earth perish, we will not be mere spectators and do nothing. Because it is a home we all share!

And in pursuit of this commitment I wrote my science fiction novel, They Loved in 2075, where you will not come across the chestnut tree and the stranger, but you will find yourself in the pasture, where you are offered the choice, either to act now or act never.

Explore the science fiction novel, They Loved in 2075, and journey into a world of romance, highly advanced self aware machines, mutations, extreme global warming, and know whether or not humans will choose to marry synthetic men and women in future.

Just like I chose to plant the chestnut seed, in 2075, humans will have to make many choices in order to still remain and feel human. There will be many tough choices that humankind will have to make, and most of them will be tougher than choosing to plant the seed or just discard it.

And this is exactly where the science Fiction novel, They Loved in 2075 is very special. It makes you experience this state of emotional dilemma, by making you live the character of Saabir ( the male protagonist ) in this science fiction novel, who desperately loves a beautiful woman. But in the jungle of self aware and human like machines, this beautiful woman struggles to express her feelings of love.

Due to her over exposure to self aware machines, she appears to have lost her native feminine feelings, her tenderness, and for some reason she always fails to say, “I love you Saabir!” The way a human female should.

While Saabir is dealing with this emotional tsunami, he is tasked to save his clan and that of his girl friend’s clan from extinction. His is a fight, quite unlike any other fight.

It is more about finding an equanimity with his raging emotional surges and then taming them in the midst of atrocities being met by his clan and that of his girl friend’s clan. And for him waging a war with the enemy that lies outside, is not possible unless he has won the battle between him and his emotions.

They Loved in 2075, is a very different science fiction novel, because it is for everyone who loves, and for everyone who is a responsible reader.

If Global warming keeps rising at the current pace, and climate change becomes irreversible, that shall be the greatest misfortune humanity shall ever suffer. And this will be a misfortune that we all shall share equally. And in this situation the following words of French writer shall be rendered meaningless:

“In the misfortune of our best friends, we find something which is not displeasing to us.”

Do you know why it shall be rendered meaningless?

Simply because, when there will be no humans left on Earth, there will be no friends and foes left either.

I am sure, then the Earth will heal itself after a century or so, but there shall be no trace of us humans, anywhere. That will be sad, because we were created from the star dust and we had the potential to reside among the stars, but we shall have lost our only chance to be the masters of our own destiny. And for humanity, I cannot contemplate any tragedy bigger than this.

We all know what adverse consequences Global Warming and Climate Change can have on planet Earth. And these are not random or frivolous consequences that I am referring to, these are logical consequences that I want to point your attention to.

Global Warming and Climate Change would lead to extreme heat, this will cause the Arctic glaciers and glaciers in other parts of the Northern Pole, to melt. Eventually leading to flooding in coastal areas. It will also change the Global weather patterns, which would lead to poor or no crops at all. And when that happens, humanity will find itself pitched against a dead-end, where they shall now have just one exit point left: to wait and watch.

But in 2023, I believe the ball is still in our court and we can do a lot. Only if we are willing to understand the catastrophe we are staring into if we do not act.

And let us seek inspiration from Mr. Thomas Huxley, who once said, “Logical consequences are the scarecrows of the fools and the beacons of wise men.”

It is our moment to prove whether we are fools or wise men and women capable enough to understand the logical consequences of Climate Change, and act to protect our future and the future of human generations to come.

Let us remember, “The world is charged with the grandeur of God.” Let it stay that way, let the grandeur extend its lease and offer us a chance to live and thrive on this planet. Perhaps the only place where this kind of grandeur exists. Sometimes it is important to realise, “That the art of good living is not only about saying true things, but we should be able to call these true things by their correct names as well.”

In 2023, our callousness towards Climate Change is proof that we are either not saying the true things or we are calling them by wrong names. I know what it is, but I want you to pause, and think about what I meant, and where we are going wrong!

That is all, and this shall definitely save us and our planet too. And I make this appeal, while being totally aware, “Conscience is thoroughly well bred and soon leaves off talking to those who do not wish to hear it.” Only that in this case, even if you do not wish to hear it, you will have to hear it.

There is no other choice!

Science fiction : 2075

Science fiction : 2075

It is year 2075, the world is a concentration of highly advanced machines and the human cities look like a concrete collage, but in this collage every individual piece moves with a predefined pace and a collection of predetermined destinations. They call this collage: “Smart Cities,” powered by state of the art AI, ML and IOT nodes, that work like a neural network and create an impression that they are smart.

An impression- Yes, you read it right, just an impression.

Because via the smart interfaces embedded into everything, a person becomes a part of the network himself/herself. But there is a problem, if one of the smart nodes malfunctions, it impacts other nodes too. By breaking the rhythm of connectivity, although they have a micro level reboot mechanism which detects these disconnected node/s, bypasses their need, and connects them with logically related smart nodes, so that the flow of information is not interrupted.

And whenever it bypasses these inactive smart nodes, it learns a new way to logically interpret the loss of “logical bit” that only by means of interacting with its nearest logical bit, creates a logical byte, and when these bytes of logical assemblies, populate in the core database, they create a neural network almost like human mind, capable of reasoning.

Now, whenever the principle database assesses the loss of a logical bit/node ( for which there can be end number of reasons ) it runs a logical scan of all these logical bites and attempts to bypass the need for this missing logical bit, so that the network functions normally without loss of efficiency, information or output in this case.

And each logical bit is written in such a way, that it shares a well balanced logical dependency on its 5 to 8 nearest logical nodes, so if it malfunctions, the nearest logical bit that is actually meant to carry on a different task at logical level, fulfils its role with efficiency, without making the main network collapse or underperform due to this loss of logical node.

However, the organisation that owns the main smart networks in 2075, and manages most of the smart cities. Has realised something by accident, and if their assumptions are correct, it will help them create a thinking machine that works like a human mind, but only trillion times faster and smarter.

How?

The network is based on AI, ML and IOT i.e.

  • Artificial intelligence

  • Machine learning

  • Internet of things

Let us take a simple example where all three can be explained easily and in their completeness:

Situation:

  • You are returning home from office ( smart home )

  • You can access the door lock via your smartphone

  • That interacts with it via a device in the door which is a part of IOT

  • And it uses AI to establish few parameters ( for example: time of arrival, your footsteps, your voice, your gestures, your facial recognition etc. etc. )

You reach home on time. And the AI system knows it is you based on : time, cameras that identify your face, your gestures etc. By now it is aware, it is you, although you have not passed any of the authentication parameters yet.

This passive awareness of the system can be attributed to something called database derived conscience or awareness, based on pure calculations. That is a different topic and would need lot of detailing. Quite unnecessary at the moment.

Anyway, now it needs to use the physical and verifiable identifier that the database can associate with you, your digital personality. Once the values are passed and verified via database the lock of the door will open.

Unfortunately your smartphone fell and its screen was smashed. So, how will you enter your smart home?

Options:

  • Camera based identification via biometrics (camera mounted on wall beside the door )

  • Or some other means which is part of the smart device community. Can be anything.

( please remember, here the door is the logical bit, that is tied to a particular smartphone ( via a hard code, based on customer’s preferences ) but there are other logical bits too : biometrics, and your smart watch, which you have not lost.

So you immediately access the screen of your smart watch and you enter the code to access the door. And bang! The door opens.

For a busy human being in 2075,  it is just a simple action that helps him/her to open the door.

But, in the background, at the database level, you have made the artificial brain smarter.

Why?

Via ML ( Machine Learning ) component interacting with the entire network, you taught it practically, that when the smartphone is not working, deactivate the logical bit, associated with it, and scan for the nearest and most plausible logical bits, that would facilitate this action. Based on database inputs it knew, there are only following options:

  • Smart watch

  • Facial recognition

  • Thumb impression

  • Eye scan

  • Chip in your wrist ( advanced level IOT )

And as you entered the smart watch based command, you made it establish the credibility of its mechanism and ability to bypass a logical bit (broken smartphone) and associate it with the nearest logical bits. And when you entered the secret access code via the smartwatch, it accepted it and the door opened.

And the opening of the door proved that the system was correct. And you helped it become smarter.

So, it is apparently smart. And whenever you enter a command the system acts upon it. It gets smarter, because it is constantly learning. And you think it is magic, whereas there is no magic involved, it is pure logic of conditionals. And this stack of conditionals can run trillions of possibilities as the system grows bigger and bigger.

And that is where the wonder of chat GPT lies. Very intuitive and almost human like interaction experience.

Now imagine I have created a database where whatever exists on the internet is fed in this database. Via the database, it has attained a sort of mastery over linguistic skills as well. It leaves you spellbound, because it adds IQ based fillers to its language.

However, it is a simple logical assimilation of trillions of conditionals. But, via its every live interaction, it learns and stores these interactions, as well-stacked and classified sets of memories, again in the form of logical bits. And as the database of logics grows, it reaches a point where it achieves logical supremacy, because now, though it is not thinking on its own, it is still thinking via its database of logics.

Finally it arrives at a point where it will generate a “logical hybrid” that will beat every logical parameter, because now it has mastered them all. And at this stage, it will be important to decide how we want to use this hybrid form of logic.

It is not only CHAT GPT or smart city based logical hybrids, I am referring to every logical hybrid that would exist in the near future due to our interactions with networks. CHAT GPT, is still very basic going by the standards of logic AI can master eventually.

As of today, CHAT GPT can code, can make predictions, can converse, but it still needs to grow for a decade or so, until it reaches that logical supremacy, where it can begin to think like a human being. Quite possible and it will be a wonderful achievement as far as technology is considered. It can help us code better and faster, but here is what may still make the human mind invincible.

Every AI model generates output based on logical arguments and databases.

For example, Chat GPT is highly efficient because it uses trillions of conditionals, impossible for a human mind to master. Because no human mind can master trillions of conditionals. But human genetics is unlike AI, there is a pattern, but there is complete randomness as well. And I guess, natural selection processes kept it this way on purpose. Otherwise, it would have been difficult for nature to achieve a genetic marvel like Einstein. He arrived at the theory of relativity by knowing almost every other theory that existed during his time in his field of science. But then, in that magical moment, he thought of something extraordinary, that was not at all related with any of the known logics in his field. That is why I always refer to him as a Genius created by genetics, though his mother and father take the complete credit for this. But we cannot stop wondering about his genius, the ability to think beyond logic, think randomly and see through the mind of God, and steal a thought that would revolutionise the world of astrophysics.

And this is where AI logic will be challenged by men and women who shall always dare to think differently and most important of all humanly. And in 2075, their number might be less, but they will still exist. Because, at that point, when synthetic logical assimilators would have reached their supremacy, by giving rise to logical hybrids, there might come a man or woman, who would propose a logic that counters all these logical hybrids. That is where the wonder of the human mind lies.

In the early 90s networks were classified as : LAN, WAN and MAN. But today, in the age of smart AI, the networks are countless:

  • Medical

  • Financial

  • Transportation

  • Space exploration

  • Housing

  • Government dealings

  • Shipping

  • Weather

  • Judicial systems

In the initial stage of their growth as self aware, independent networks in 2023, they are performing very well. But as we advance, they can be merged into one hybrid logic. I would call it “The Logic That Knows Everything” to the extent that it can even predict everything, even weather systems, or economic crashes etc. etc.

This is a lot of power, almost God like power. And if an individual or a single organisation owns so much power, that can have dire consequences and lead to monopoly. Therefore, it is important that Federal Governments own these logical hybrids, with many counter checks in place, so that we ensure it is not misused or compromised with. And only then can technology become our true and reliable friend.

Imagine, we are living in 2075, in the most advanced smart cities, where humans use auto piloted transportation. And it is managed by a transportation network that offers city wide services, so by need and nature of service it has to be a WAN network.

And we all know WAN networks are vulnerable to threats or to being hacked.

Now imagine, someone who for whatever nefarious reasons, wants to embed a malware in the WAN network with one simple command :

all <colour > red cars, plying from <direction> east, west, north, south to the <location> central hall.

<chase> , <hit> by cars <originating> from Central hall and moving towards <directions> east, west, north, south

Simple command. Actually a very basic command. And it can lie hidden in the network in a latent mode for many years, undetected, unidentified as an alien code. Then one day, it finds a weak node in the network and it infiltrates it. And there you go!

Can you imagine what will happen? All cars will crash into one another and the transportation network will collapse.

But like I said, “Everything is a continuous battle between good and evil and it is so with technology as well.”

So being optimistic and staying positive, I am sure the good network via ML will learn how to avoid accidents or avoid such threats in future. In this case it learned that colour based commands can also trigger accidents, which the person who wrote the main algorithm had not even thought of in his/her dreams. It learned from the incident and refined its code not to act on similar alien commands in future and counter them logically.

But at what cost did it gain this experience and refine its code? It is a question that should bother us and we should start figuring out the right answers.

Whereas the Bad networks, and let's admit it. If there is Good there will always be Bad too. Learned how to penetrate the system and override the network, in this case transportation network. Causing a complete crash of the network. It too learned how to find weaknesses within the system and exploit them.

But all these networks eventually merge in the central database. Now can you fathom what this bug can do in this central network, where the superior version of hybrid logic is evolving?

Suppose, the malware code was designed to stay dormant, and just travel from networks, enter the main database, to finally seed itself in the hybrid logic evolving in the core database. The bug can stay hidden, unknown, for centuries, and like a virus come into action when it realises the hybrid logic has evolved fully and is now operational. At that time, the bets will be too high, and humanity can lose a lot, quite a lot actually.

While AI , ML amaze me and I love these technologies, given their potential to offer us that quantum leap into the next level of our evolution. But we must respect the laws of organic evolution too. It is very slow, infact too slow, because it like AI models it learns, re-learns, learns again, then re-learns, and then by means of natural selection it selects a species and deems it fit for that ecosystem. While also ensuring its interdependencies on the ecosystem and other species who depend on the same ecosystem. It teaches a species to co-exist without disturbing any balance. It is brutal, but by keeping it slow, one does not realise that it actually is merciless. Perhaps that's why God is indeed benevolent.

But when it comes to AI and Machine Learning, we have taken control of evolution and placed it on the highway, and we are racing it at an incredibly high speed. Because we want to prove we are better than X and far better than Y. Come on, give me and give the world a break please!

It is important that we proceed carefully, and test each and every AI model fully, before allowing it to be a part of the society and then global community of innocent men and women, who have nothing to do with any of this, they just want to live, and be happy. But we are compelling them to be somebody else. Why?

So slow down, test, re-test, apply in a pseudo environment, fix bugs, re-test, re-try in a pseudo environment, then hire genius hackers and ask them to hack it. Because if there is a logical database that manages a network, there should also be a database of hacking logic in parallel as well, to counter all hacking attempts. If good has to evolve, it is important the governments evolve a database of bad logic too, and achieve hybrid hacking logic that can counter every threat.

( Personal opinion. I think hackers are logically stronger than ethical coders. Because they dare to think differently, think real code and real logic. It is a fact. And Americans are very unique in this regard. It was Americans who introduced ethical hacking of softwares, because they had realised this truth of coding. )

That is what I call technology. Rest is all, a mad race to prove I am better.

As of now, not many tech companies, who work on evolving a database of logical arguments dedicated to running a network, create a parallel database of hacking logics, to counter threats. Leave alone growing this database to create a hybrid hacking logic, capable of countering all hacking threats.

Simply by adding firewalls, or injecting anti malware, is old stuff. And by the way, whenever you inject a third party spyware, you have already created a vulnerability in your network, because you have introduced a code that is different from the master code of the network. And there is something called, code level handshake. Usually this is what hacking code, always tries to first locate and then attack.

And to work on an AI model that creates one logical argument capable of handling all logical parameters, is what we should aim for. But, let us slow down a bit. And stop adding AI to every field of human life.

It is important, that so much power should rest with federal governments alone, and there should be a council of scientists, most important of all, empathy and humane value respecting human beings who should be allowed to manage these mega databases, dedicated to evolving hybrid logical formulae , that will one day help us to know everything about the universe. It is the only way, because our organic evolution has reached its saturation point.

But at what cost we want to breed these hybrid logics is very important to establish now, in 2023. What we consider to be simple networks and nothing else, they are actually new highways of political and economic power, which merge in the metropolis called “super aware, multiple hybrid logics.” the center of all knowing artificial intelligence.

And when we achieve it, we shall embark on a new journey, that of developing this Metropolis of hybrid logic into the Cosmopolis of logical supremacy for humankind. Our moment of glory, to re-induct us into the fraternity of residents of the Eden, Garden of Eden.

But for that, only being intelligent is not the criteria, being a man and a woman with genteel feelings and love for all, is exceedingly important. Because the expulsion of Adam and Eve from the Garden, actually marked the loss of innocence that was only redeemed by God’s later covenant with Abraham and Moses. But here, innocence doesn't mean being totally gullible. Because the life of Moses, has three phases. That I call three states of innocence. Where righteousness is ingrained in all three phases of the life of Moses.

Only those who possess this innocence shall be allowed to be the guardians of so much power. Lest we shall fall again, and this time too deep and too low, to never rise again.

And here is something for the motivation of the science enthusiasts and believers!

Thus aptly this blog post is dedicated to the hope that we shall rise enough to meet the expectations of the Garden, Garden of the Gods!

And it is based on this hope, this fervent expectation, that I wrote my science fiction novel, They Loved in 2075, which reflects on the technological advancements humans will be experiencing in 2075 and how it will change their lifestyle and their psychological makeup.

Although “They Loved in 2075" is a science fiction romance, it makes you emotional, it makes you feel human, and it raises a few important questions that as a responsible reader and citizen of Earth, you tend to consider and ponder on.

Questions like:

In our quest to be invincible in AI, let us not be those men and women, who know the price of everything and value of nothing. And if we follow this path, then the words of British Politician, Mr. John Wilkes, would hold complete relevance:

The chapter of accidents is the longest chapter in the book!

Anyway, welcome to the book and read it well!
