Reading a science fiction

Reading a science fiction

I have read quite a few science fiction novels, and I have always been amazed by their ability to predict the future with such remarkable simplicity, and appeal of writing style. That as a reader I feel part of the world that exists by virtue of fiction, but feels so real and extremely authentic. To the extent that reality surrounds you in a totally different form. And for a moment you feel, fiction too can migrate into the dimension of reality. Where every sense is rewarded adequately and you begin interacting with this world that emerged from the science fiction, till it forms itself around you and now you can even touch it, and it will be appropriate to say that as a reader you can even feel it.

Maybe this sounds too philosophical and superstitious, because every new reality, initially appears to be just a thought trying to establish its realism, and somehow as a reader, we reject it and assign it the existence of a superstition, where we seek literary refuge. Especially when reality weighs too heavily upon us.

Didn't you feel the same weight when you read “Frankenstein" or you watched the famous movie “Interstellar?” Maybe many of you would say, “no, we did not!” But since I speak for myself, I admit that I did. I had to disengage myself from the engrossing ideas put forward by these marvels of fiction. Then as my mind came to terms with the concepts portrayed in these science fiction novels, I pulled them into the space of science where I often tend to examine ideas based on my understanding of the known laws of science. And there I was, onboard the Titanic that was bound to sink on its maiden voyage.

When I examined the ideas put forward by these excellently written science fiction novels, I realised, my mind did not possess the capacity to deal with their sheer enormity, in terms of the scientific possibilities presented by them.

Nevertheless, I again summoned my reader’s curiosity and began re-examining the ideas with a renewed zeal. And there it was. A phantom of knowledge hidden inside a flower that's blooming and opening its petals as the morning sun shines brighter with every passing moment. Just like this flower, the phantom appeared in its physical and clear form, and it was the transformation point I was seeking. The point where science fiction evolves into a scientific reality.

However, there are a few intriguing but interesting theories, and science related mysteries, that neither get addressed nor mentioned in a science fiction novel. And one such mystery that has baffled the community of scientists for long, is the Dark Matter.

So, reading good science fiction is like seeking the moment of wonder, where you converse with the dark Matter waiting to reveal itself to the right person, and at the right moment. All it takes is that moment of realisation. A moment similar to what was realised by Einstein, when he dealt with the theory of relativity.

As a reader we should never forget that the human mind is like an umbrella, it works the best when open. And that is what draws science fiction novels apart from other genres. A well written science fiction novel always forces you to open your mind. Because it is not about fantasy, about feelings or emotions, where the reader’s heart is the main point of interaction and solicitation.

When it comes to science fiction novels, it is mostly about science and science based concepts, and the reader is left with no option but to open his/her mind like an umbrella, and experience the bliss of open mindedness, dealing with a new concept that takes the mind on a new journey of possibilities. And as a reader of science fiction novels this is what we should attempt.

So go forth and read. And never forget that a mind daring enough to open itself like an umbrella, is the mind that can read both fiction and reality, in the dimensions of endless possibilities.

And maybe, you would also want to explore the scientific possibilities, science fiction novel titled, They Loved in 2075, has to offer you as a responsible and an open minded reader. Who is keen to know what the world might look like in 2075, when in 2023 we are turning a blind eye towards Global Warming and Climate Change. For everything else, I shall let you decide how the science fiction novel, They Loved in 2075 fairs when it comes to engaging your mind and the curious reader within you.

Dedicated to the meaningful and responsible reading experience. And to the hope that the world in 2075 will still be habitable, and we would have put strict measures and policies in place to check Climate Change and Global Warming.

Cheers!
