2075 : Science Fiction Will Be Real

2075 : Science Fiction and Artificial Intelligence

It is a hot summer day in 2075. There is almost no sign of life treading on the roads. It is the sun, the sunshine and a vast stretch of sand dunes, the only geometric formations on this otherwise very flat landscape. The sun baked sand particles move in all directions, as if in a pursuit to find an easy victim, a place that would not object to receiving these deposits of sharp ended sand granules. And it spares none, because the topography of the place bears clear evidence to the assault of these sharp edged sand grains, that the wind always carries along and deposits  them at the most suitable spots. Which is everywhere and anywhere.

The main highway is followed by a long stretch of low lying and rock like formation, and it bears pools of glistening sand granules, on its side edges facing the highway. And whenever a fresh wave of wind swoops across it, it lifts a thin film of sand granules, making it look like an infinite swarm of locusts, chasing the land below them. Finally when they feel they have arrived at the  spot of their choice, they rain this gold dust upon it, leaving it gilded in an orangish hue, that glitters brightly, as the retrieving wind clears the path for the sunshine to reveal this secret deposit of gold dust- A common occurrence in 2075.

When the Sun shines to manifest its raging inferno that has taken the vow to scorch everything that it touches, by means of its hotter and much brighter rays. And so far there appears to be nothing that would put a restraint on either of them : the unruly wind and the impetuous Sun that is turning hotter with every passing year.

In 2075, the world is a spitting reflection of the ecosystem portrayed in the famed science fiction novel, Dune.

It appears as if the world is cursed by the irony of Midas Touch. There is gold like dust everywhere, though it is not gold at all, yet our yearnings for gold, have painted the entire landscape with this gold dust, that is claiming new territories every day, and as its dominion is expanding, humans as a species are being forced to the edge of every life sustaining horizon, for now the Earth. Where only few humans exist today, and among them many have devoted their lives to end this tyrannical reign of the Sun.

That has conspired with sand and wind, and is committed to launch its incursion of fury, that is merciless and preponderate in its proportion, compared to resistance offered by the dying ecosystem of the Earth that was once ideal to support human life. But today, in 2075, nature’s fury has left its indelible mark on everything, and if humans as a single society do not wake up to this need of the hour, it will be the foreboding, that hints at just one thing: Earth without humans, and unfortunately, that might be a reality very soon. And this is not a precarious event that I am referring to, it is a reality our next generation of humans may have to deal with, if we do not take the right steps that we ought to take now.

Well, the Sun is in no mood of showing any relaxation, because we humans appear to lack the political will and scientific adventurousness that would prevent us from predating on our own species. And if we are to survive as a species in the coming years, we need to address this problem today, only then we can venture into the tomorrow, where hope manages to emerge victorious.

With our predisposed attitude towards issues like : Global Warming, Deforestation, Water Pollution etc. we can bypass what appears to be a certainty, complete annihilation of human race in coming centuries.

So what can we do?

Quite a lot actually.

US Can Be The Climate Change Leader

Here it will be apt to quote one of the famous poems by Mr. William Wordsworth:

WORLDLINESS

The World is too much with us, late and soon,

Getting and spending, we lay waste our powers;

Little we see in nature that is ours,

We have given our hearts away, a sordid boon!

This sea that bears her bosom to the moon,

The winds that will be howling at all hours,

And are up gathered now like sleeping flowers,

For this, for everything, we are out of tune;

It moves us not, great God! I would rather be

A pagan suckled in a creed outworn,

So might I, standing on this pleasant lea,

Have glimpses that would make me less forlorn;

Have sight of Proteus rising from the sea;

Or hear old Triton blow his wreathed horn.

And in 2075, everything is an echo that always returns single vocal response, “ humans hankering after a sordid boon!” Our avaricious pursuits have doubtlessly rendered us sordid and muddled our common sense and every other sense responsible in harnessing our scientific abilities and political will, needed to contain the degradation of our environment, that is only advancing in single direction, that of destroying the planet Earth. Thereby, making us the heartless mercenaries, who are on a mission to wipe out their own creed.

The current situation has turned dangerously against us, because it has pitched us against a force that is growing in its might every second. The sand dunes are expanding like the uncontrollable growth of weeds, and unfortunately we are yet to understand the meaning of these lines from the poem WORLDLINESS:

“So might I, standing on this pleasant lea,

Have glimpses that would make me less forlorn;”

In 2075, we are unwilling to have glimpses that would help us understand the core cause of environmental degradation, and act with measures that would help us overcome our state of inaction, if not lack of action, for sure slow and sluggish action. Slow, because the environment is migrating from good to worse, and before it reaches a crisis like state, wisdom lies in taking the corrective measures now, with a ferocious but sensible proneness to mitigate the effects of every form of pollution, for which we are responsible, directly and indirectly as well. Then it is very likely that the false gold dust will turn into real gold dust, that shall gleam over every avenue of hope. Along every highway that leads into a tomorrow that looks brighter, but does not feel hotter. Instead it feels like Mr. Willian Wordsworth's "glimpse;" with the power to make us less forlorn.

Though this blog post tries to capture an imaginary view of the world in 2075, what matters the most is what we can do today, right now, to construct a series of events that would pave the way for concentrated and genuine efforts made in the direction of protecting the Earth’s ecosystem and reducing Global warming; by, both inventing and discovering ways to reduce the carbon footprint at individual level. Because it is not the responsibility of multi national companies alone, it is the responsibility of every citizen of this planet to contribute towards reducing his/her daily carbon footprint. It can be as simple as wearing a pant that you need to wash after a week, or making a commitment, that you would use your smart electronic devices wisely, so that you do not have to charge them frequently and for longer hours. It is these small steps, that would contribute towards making a big change that we all need to be a part of as a revolution that seeks to reverse Global Warming and its root causes. In the beginning everything appears to be somewhat difficult, but as you tread on a chosen path, you are greeted with milestones of endless hope, and this keeps you moving forward with an imperious commitment, towards your goal.

And this goal is very unique, because in its success lies the hope for your children, our children of tomorrow, who deserve to inherit a legacy that is worth appreciating; and the one that yields infinite atoms of reality which is as beautiful as anything virtuous can be. I do not see anything disapproving about this quest, all I see is, maturity of human sensibility, and sensitivity towards the ecosystem that supports our survival, and displaying a reticent approach towards this duty that we all are obliged to fulfil if we want our future generations to dwell in a world where life can survive, and the heart can still find a million reasons to keep beating. Few of us appear to be caught in the false morbidity of this duty that we as citizen of Earth owe to it, and staying as captives of this morbidity that is actually a self erected wall of inaction, can lead to an environmental fiasco with repercussions that would leave every aspect of human lives inundated by the reality of calamity that is peering at us with every sun beam, and it is only mater of time, that we shall become its victims, with no means to recover the losses thus incurred by human species on whole: complete termination.

And that is the danger we all should fear, because it is real, but our indifference towards it, has cast us as the infidels in the religion of environmental protection, which as of today, should be the chief religion for the entire human race. Any further delay in this regard will depose us from the title “Crown of His Creation” because when Global warming, and Environmental degradation reach an irreversible stage, then no act of scientific fortitude should be able to save us, nothing at all!

And I think this is where AI ( Artificial Intelligence ) can play a leading role, and capacitate us to work towards a strategy that would help us to tackle Global Warming with precision based approach, that does not only enable us to find the right means to tackle it, but offers a predictive analysis to handle it better in future and mitigate its risks, and eventually eliminate it completely.

Eliminate it completely! Wow, what was I thinking when I wrote this!

I was thinking logically and relying on AI’s ability to help humans attain zero carbon footprint, where every sector and individual is made accountable for their efforts in reducing the Global warming. It may appear like a thought nestled in the hinterland of scientific reality, but it is possible if we try to develop AI tools specifically meant to address issues like climate change, global warming, air pollution etc.

And this is what makes the science fiction novel, They Loved in 2075, so special. It introduces the reader to the fears and realities of 2075, where the world is dominated by self aware machines, and technology has infiltrated into our lives with such dominance that it is omnipresent. And in 2075, in presence of these self ware machines and an unstoppable rise of the thinking machines, asking few questions has become necessary for the human species, if they are to safeguard the makeup of their human genome and original human feelings.

And the science fiction novel, They Loved in 2075, explores via a wonderfully written storyline, how will humans experience love in 2075? This science fiction novel navigates through the possibility of men and women falling in love with machines, without knowing they are robots imitating human emotions. Will you still dare to fall in love in 2075 or will you strive to tell the difference between a human lover and a robotic lover?

This Sci-fi novel tells the story of a man who falls in love with a real woman in 2075. And how he struggles to feel human and keep his emotional composition intact.

This Sci-fi story also aims at revealing why the man chose to love a real woman and not a never ageing and always beautiful woman with synthetic feelings. In 2075, this might be a choice we all will have to make. Especially our children!

I will conclude this blog post with a short poem quoted from the science fiction novel, They Loved in 2075.

“Oh rose such a beautiful rose,

How lovely in this dim moonlight it glows,

Its pleasant aroma upon our senses grows,

What nature conceives can never be created in magician’s shows,

And there is nothing like a lovely rose that here grows,

And what a loss for humanity that about it nothing knows!”

This blog post is dedicated to hope, that roses will still bloom in 2075 and human feelings and love will still thrive with all their native essences intact, and by 2075, we shall have every protocol in place, that will prevent the invasion of synthetic feelings over original human feelings.

In this hope lies our future and in it lies our destiny too!
