Best science fiction books. Are they worth reading?

Best science fiction books. Are they worth reading?

We all know this famous quote by Bulwar. “Master books, but do not let them master you. Read to live, not live to read.”

It is an intense quote and it speaks a lot about how far we should extend our affair with books. Well, we can take it quite far but how far is too far? This is what matters and shall decide whether we have mastered the books or the books have mastered us. And when it comes to reading the best selling #sciencefiction books Bulwar’s quote holds maximum relevance. Because these best science fiction books of all time do not only deal with a scientific concept that is fictitious. They deal with a scientific revolution that is bound to influence the #scifi readers’ minds with a prolific impact, and in some cases, these scifi ideas can be so fascinating that if the scifi reader does not apply timely forethought, he/she is bound to evolve into a reader whose mind will be mastered by the science fiction books. With such emphatic ramifications that he/she will be left sailing in a world of fiction, with no boundaries.

But does that mean best selling science fiction books should be avoided? No, no, not at all please! Because if it were so then we will have to avoid reading books of other genres as well. Not just scifi.

Fantasy can be more addictive compared to fiction when it comes to being led into a world where you believe imagination is more real than reality. And this is where science fiction books are actually unique. They do not deal with fantasy, they deal with scientific concepts based on well weighed and thoroughly conducted research. And it is these facts that act as check posts of reality. So whenever you drift into imagining about these #scifi concepts, these check posts of reality retract your mental wanderings. Thus preventing you from venturing too far into a world of fiction. And these check posts are not so conspicuous in other genres, they are there too but they are less palpable. This is why reading best selling science fiction books is a mind exercise worth undertaking.

And the most adventurous part of reading the best #sciencefiction books of all time is the way they force you to think and imagine all scientific possibilities of the concepts/s proposed in the scifi book. Scifi books are the best when it comes to making the scifi reader think, because they do not think for the reader. And this virtue makes them the most efficient tool that offers a quintessential mind exercise. While not subjecting the mind to what can be termed as “thinking exhaustion!”

This balance is very rare to achieve when it comes to other genres. Because in those genres there are moments where the portions of the book think for you. But in the case of the best selling #scifibooks of all time, they always make you think, because you are reading a fiction that deals with scientific ideas, or a new and groundbreaking scientific concept.

Isn't this fact motivating enough to read the best selling science fiction books! If for the sake of nothing, for the sake of mind’s locomotion, exploring the best scifi books of all times, is a worthwhile indulgence of the mind. It cannot be denied.

Moreover, a book that only makes you read a lot, but think less, is just a book with words, sentences and paragraphs. A best selling science fiction book makes you think a lot because scifi books suggest a thought, they do not merely tell a thought. And being suggestive in construction, a #scifi reader is bound to think and think a lot, and when that happens, his/her brain erects a bulwark against the unrealistic concepts that cannot survive the criticism of highbrows in the subject or topic that the scifi concept is dealing with.

This trait of science fiction books also makes them perfect for serious and contemplative readers. Because they suggest a thought, and let your mind walk on this suggested course of innovative idea, at your own pace, while being borne company by your scientific knowledge and common sense. And it is natural you will only get better at anything and everything by applying the right thought and by letting your mind probe its logical basis. And trust me, whatever we do, wherever we may do it, or however we may do it, we need to apply our mind and common sense. As such, common sense cannot exist without a mind that is mindful of thinking irrelevant thoughts, it always coexists with a mind that is an expert at thinking relevant and logically pleasant thoughts. And the best selling #scifibooks promote this mode of thinking; where common sense coexists with a healthy mind.

Every discipline of science reaches a saturation point when it comes to fresh ideas and new concepts. And there can be many reasons for this crisis. But one major reason being lack of originality, where a generation of readers interacts only with books and other means of gaining knowledge that think for them. Without offering these readers any opportunity to think for themselves. Because these books and tools of knowledge are only about a thought. Nothing else. They even eliminate thoughts that suggest something and allow the mind of the reader to handle them at individual level and become inventive and think the unthinkable. Think innovation!

It is at these junctures of human societies that civilisations suffer from scientific burdens, because there's nobody to support these burdens with pure and original scientific thoughts. It is almost like the devil trying to distract someone from realising the real essence of his/her life’s purpose. In this case the purpose being to seek knowledge and the devil preventing the reader from seeking this knowledge are the books and tools of knowledge that present thoughts or concepts in such a way that they do not allow the reader to think. They create an illusion that the thought has already been thought about and adequately examined on their behalf. And this is when you enter a state of complete annihilation at intellectual level- The devil has succeeded in meeting its objective!

And when the generation becomes overburdened by this scientific burden, it moves into what I call, intellectual recession. And it does not manifest itself immediately, but it can be felt by future generations of that civilization after many decades or even after a century. Then at this stage this civilisation can only suffer two outcomes:

Either become extinct or become intellectually backward.

And intellectual backwardness is more devastating for societies than poverty or other forms of backwardness. Because societies where intellectual forwardness abounds, no form of backwardness can exist. That is impossible. And history testifies for this, and the current world order self explains this theory as well.

And it is exactly in this sense too that the best selling science fiction books rescue societies from entering into this state of scientific burden which always leads to intellectual recession. And a society that wants to progress and develop, should first overcome this form of recession. And this intellectual recession can to some extent, if not completely, be mitigated by the best selling science fiction authors. Their well written and well researched #scifibooks can make a civilisation intellectual recession hardy if not completely recession proof.

Now that is a great reason to read best selling science fiction books. Because we all want our countries to be forward thinking in every field. So, if you are a patriot and you do not believe in jingoism, then you will definitely invest some time to interact with a well written scifi book.

It is only scifi books that present themselves as future guides to the world of advanced science. Therefore, they are the guides of the youth, motivating them to pursue good science without expecting anything in return. Nothing at all.

So, isn't reading #scifibooks worth our effort and time?

If you are a true patriot, and a person who believes in the progress of your country, you cannot deny that reading best selling #scifi books is a worthwhile mental investment. Because they prevent a nation from entering into intellectual recession. A country can survive any recession, except this form of recession.

There is a similar science fiction book that offers a lot of scientific novelty. It is titled, They Loved in 2075, and when you read this book, as readers it rids us from scientific burdens, and also offers hope that in future humanity may find a way to avoid entering into intellectual recession.

It also tackles one more important topic i.e. emotional recession. Because in the future, where self aware machines will rule our world and be a part of our everyday interactions and transactions as well, it is very likely that humans will lose their native human feelings and emotions. And when that happens, humanity will reach the peak of emotional numbness. In the scifi novel titled, They Loved in 2075, the protagonist of the scifi novel, deals with a similar situation, because he is in love with a beautiful female who is unable to emote like humans.

And this #scifi novel offers hope and ways to prevent future human generations from entering into this emotional crisis.

In the end life is all and only about principles. And nobody explains it better than the genius of philosophy, Confucius.

“He who merely knows right principles is not equal to him/her who loves them!”

And to understand why science fiction books are so appealing and important, just knowing a scifi book is not enough, you have to love it first. Only then it will reveal to you a world of scientific wonder and endless possibilities. Loving a book while reading it is the main principle of reading any book of any genre.

The #scifi novel titled, They Loved in 2075, helps you establish this love for reading well written scifi books!
