Best selling scifi books. What makes them best?

Just like there are movie stars and there are superstars. Similarly there are #sciencefiction books and best selling science fiction books. In a movie it is the combination of the director and the actor that makes a movie click at the box office. Because with their mutual understanding and mastery over the craft of acting, they are able to bring to life the characters of story on which the movie is based. And when that happens, you get to watch a movie where you can relate with almost every character with ease- A box office hit! Because it treats your visual entertainment seeking and intellectual regions of the brain with a perfect balance.

But when it comes to best selling #scifibooks, it is the author’s ability to create a character and in many cases more than one character, and then via these characters play scenes of the science fiction story via words and sentences, that the reader is able to envisage in his/her mind, without much effort.

And if the author is able to achieve this synchronisation between the reader's mind and his/her well written and tactfully placed words, that are immediately absorbed by the reader’s mind and then rendered as a visual interpretation. Then nothing can prevent the #scifi book from becoming the best selling scifi book.

However, for this to happen the reader should be able to forge a sort of companionship with these characters. And if the reader enjoys the company of these visually created characters, and he/she effortlessly walks with them via his/her mental landscape; where he/she entertains the proposed scientific concept in the logical and analytical regions of his/her mind, and finds the entire process intellectually vivifying; then the scifi book is bound to be a best seller. No doubt about that!

So, how does one make these characters interesting, that the reader enjoys their self created visual company?

Well, that is where the writer’s unique style and his/her formidability as a scifi writer is put to the ultimate test. And there are a very few #scifi writers who meet the requirements of a scifi reader’s taste with such accuracy that the scifi reader finds a sort of patient, and at times conversant companion in these characters.

Most of us, scifi readers, seek scientific innovativeness and newness in a sci-fi story that prompts our mind to think alongside the writer’s vision of the scientific future proposed by him/her. When a reader discovers this newness and innovative freshness in a scifi book, he/she falls in love with it. Because he/she has actively, via his/her science conscious mind fallen in love; either with the characters or scientific idea/s expressed in the scifi book.

It is possible only when the plot of the scifi story offers a common ground to both the science conscious reader’s mind and the characters in the scifi story. At this stage something astonishing takes place.

Now two minds i.e. the reader's mind and the author's mind, via his/her sci book, are launched in the same direction. Now they both imagine the same thing as far as the flow of the #scifi story is concerned. Then as the story progresses the reader uses individualised logical arrays to establish the scientific outcome of these scientific imaginations. And when the two coincide logically, as well as intellectually, the characters in the scifi story become the reader’s best friends, and the scientific plot of the scifi story becomes a common abode. Where now, the author and the reader share science as a common interest.

At this stage the scifi book has already become the best selling scifi book. Because it has not forcefully sold a scientific concept to the thinking and always curious mind of the scifi reader. But it was so wonderfully presented via beautifully and strategically placed words, that the scifi reader felt he/she was reading a chapter from his/her own imagination.

This is what differentiates #scifibooks from extraordinary scifi books.

But there is still something, something more than this detail that is needed if a scifi book is to become a best selling scifi book. That fine detail which is original and very gentle. So much so, that every scifi reader feels it is actually a very well written version of his/her own scientific views on the #scifi concept being discussed in the scifi story, via a wonderfully worded sci-fi plot, that is least ostentatious. Because it is based on logical imagination that the reader appears to find easily acceptable. Therefore forfeiting any need for intellectual exaggeration.

And when this happens the literary unsavouriness of the scifi book is filled with a flavour of perfect vocabulary that the scifi reader finds irresistible and easily digestible.

And this is where all books differ, and #scifibooks in particular!

Few books are meant to be just chewed, few are meant to be swallowed; but there are a few books that offer many salient aspects of intellectual hybridisation at individual level i.e. at the reader’s level of personal intellect. If that is the case then that book is worth digesting. Because these books are not only about a story filled with suspense and scientific concepts, these books are the most vivid view of the reality that would exist in the future. A reality that will be an inextricable part of our lives in that future.

And it is these type of scifi books that are worth digesting, because they elevate scientific thinking to a new height for every reader, at his/her individual capacity. And any scifi book that achieves this level of interaction with the mind of the reader is a best seller scifi book. Because it offers many intellectual dividends to the scifi reader and that too when it also successfully creates for the reader, genuine friends or companions in the form of the patient and conversant characters of the scifi story. Who shall now stay with him/her forever, as long as he/she lives. To always fertilise his/her mind with scientific newness and freshness, that will always leave him/her rejuvenated as a reader.

So, I wonder why should not such a scifi book be the best selling scifi book!

By reading well written and scientifically enriching #scifibooks, the reader achieves what I call, Reader’s Heroism! Because a hero is not the one who goes about resorting to any means in order to establish his/her point. But a true hero is the one, who finds a common ground and respects other people's point of view as well. And a well written scifi book offers this common ground to all responsible and ardent scifi readers.

This is why I strongly believe that those of us who interact with well written scifi books, and more often with best selling #scifi books, have reached the epitome of “Reader’s Heroism!”

If a scifi book carries this element of intellectual neutrality without diluting its intellectual versatility, then that scifi book is surely the one meant to be the best selling scifi book.

I am sure you have read many such scifi books. But if you try to read the scifi book titled, They Loved in 2075, you will actually understand what I meant by “Reader’s Heroism” and how a scifi book can coexist with the mental individualism of each reader.

Because the scifi book, They Loved in 2075, is about all of us. It is about you as much as it is about me. More than you and me, it is about our future generations and what we should do now, in order to help our future generations from not entering into a state of emotional sterility. Where they no longer can emote or feel like humans. Because their human side of emotions and thinking will be overwhelmed by synthetic emotions, which they will develop due too their increasing interaction with self aware and intelligent machines.

And this is why the #scifi book, They Loved in 2075 is very unique. Because it is a romance scifi where a boy falls in love with a beautiful girl, who is unable to react to him like a human. Because she has lost her ability to emote like humans. And while he is dealing with this challenge at personal level, the world around him gets divided into three clans. And one of the clans wants to dominate the entire planet. Then, while he is trying to keep his romance alive, he also gets dragged into the war with the self aware machines.

To know whether machines win or the boy with the help of his girl, wins finally! Please read the #scifi book, They Loved in 2075.
