Best selling science fiction books. Impressions and views

Best selling science fiction books. Impressions and views

What we see tends to satisfy us more than what we hear. Because when we see something we feel we are managing everything of our own free will i.e. via the act of seeing.  But when we hear something, this belief is missing. Because we hear what someone wants to say or is saying.

This impression does not exist in the case of visual contact with something, because unlike sounds that we hear, what we see has no control over its physical appearance. And our mind knows this fact. Therefore, whenever we see something we feel more satisfied than when we hear something.

Now this is where it gets very interesting. When it comes to best selling science fiction books, the authors use this fact to their advantage. Because they know that the words printed on the paper have the ability to offer a satisfaction similar to seeing something. And if these words are well chosen the reader feels a sense of satisfaction pervading his/her every sense, offering him/her crescendo like moments of satisfaction. An imagination that he wants to believe in because he/she finds it pleasing and satisfying.

But it is a fact that all authors are not able to employ to their advantage. At times when the #scifi reader is going through the scifi book, he/she feels there are strong and loud voices disturbing his/her mental peace that a reader seeks via a scifi book. All because these voices, which actually are strong opinions of the scifi author, drown the reader’s own voices, thus suffocating his/her own opinions. To the extent that he/she feels exasperated and gives up on the #scifi book, since he/she is unable to derive any satisfaction from it.

The scifi author may be attempting to promote a scientific idea via the plainness of his/her thoughts, but as long as he/she is not able to use words that do not create strong echoes of the author’s opinions, the scifi book will only appeal one reader i.e. the writer of the #scifi book himself/herself. Because he/she will find every word very pleasing and impressive, as they carry his/her own opinions and they lie scattered on every page as visual pieces that he/she would always gain satisfaction from. And when this happens, the scifi author turns into the king who loves wearing invisible clothes.

No wonder they say, seeing is believing. And when the reader sees words he/she can easily recognise, the scifi reader believes that this might be the scifi book he/she had been wanting to read for a long time. Once he/she is overcome by this belief the author has managed to express his/her opinions without creating voices and echoes of his strong opinions that now create no friction with the views and opinions of the reader. I call it the scifi book’s ability to advertise its willingness to enter into a truce with the reader’s personal opinions, whenever the author’s opinion overpowers the reader’s own literary personality. And who does not like associating with a friendly person, and please do not forget that books too have personalities. And like humans, books too can have detestable or pleasing personalities, and the #scifi readers can judge it very early. When they have not even read past 4 to 6 pages of the scifi book.

And a book that uses words which do not create deafening echoes of author’s opinions, usually are the #scifibooks that the scifi readers find interesting, and it is these scifi book, that go on to become the best selling scifi books of all time. Because these authors know how to rid their books from the slavish necessity of magnifying their own opinions to such an extent that they appear too large to the scifi reader. So large that the #scifi reader is unable to adjust the aperture of his/her mind to capture the outlines of the author’s opinions and the scientific concept he/she wants to promote via the scifi book.

But if we look at nature, it does not create straight and perfect lines, and it also does not magnify anything with such enormity that the human mind cannot grasp its logical construction or the nature’s imagination that it expresses via everything in the universe. And few of the master scifi authors know this truth. That in the solar system the sun is the largest celestial body, but when we look at it from the earth it looks like a ball of fire that we can actually see with our naked eyes. Perfect distance, neither too far nor too near. If it were too far, it may be useless to serve any purpose to the beings on Earth. If it were too near, it would become the very cause of Earth’s destruction. And in science fiction books, every word has to be like the sun in the solar system, neither too far from the reader’s own imagination, nor too close to the scifi reader’s opinions.

But perfectly balanced, so that the reader finds a sort of self renewal in every word of the #scifi book. Without finding the process so gruesome that it would scare him/her away. Just perfectly tuned to his/her taste. Like the sun in the solar system. And knowing this fact is where the best selling scifi books win and beat the rest of the scifi books in the race to becoming the best selling #scifibooks.

The authors of the best selling scifi books never let their minds mount higher than the reader’s imagination. That soars like a free bird. If the author’s imagination soars too high, then the scifi reader’s imagination will be unable to fly in this zone of author’s imagination. And after the first flight of imagination the scifi reader will feel exhausted and unwilling to fly in this unreachable zone of author’s imagination.

And it should not mean, that a scifi author who wants to promote a new and innovative idea, should not express it, because it will leave the scifi reader’s imagination bewildered. Leading the scifi reader to a point where he/she is flagrant about announcing the travesties of the scifi book. If this fear consumes the scifi authors then the all time best selling scifi books like : The Martian, The Science of Interstellar, Dune, Time Machine, Star Wars, Frankenstein etc. would never have existed.

From what I know from my personal experience and conversations with a few friends. Many of the scifi readers had to read the scifi book : The Science of Interstellar, more than twice in order to understand the scientific concepts defined in the #scifi book. Which was also made into a superhit Hollywood movie “Interstellar.”

Surprised that I am contradicting every line of this blog post that I have written so far. Haa haaa, your objectionable take on the subjective incoherence is very well founded. But, please allow me to present something in my defence as well.

First Point. Why did these scifi readers take the trouble of reading this scifi book more than thrice, when they did not understand the concepts after their first interaction with the book?

Second Point. What made them repeatedly adjust their imagination until they flew closer to the author’s imagination? And when a reader does this, he/she sacrifices a lot. And most important of all, the reader sacrifices his/her ego. Having a little bit of ego is very important for all humans. ( Please note : being egoistic is wrong. But having a little bit ego that feeds self respect is essential, if a human being is not to be mistook for a cow or sheep, that can be tethered to the wishes and fancies of others. ) So, why did these scifi readers make so much sacrifice, just for the sake of a book?

There is one answer that addresses both points.

When they read the scifi book; and their imagination bore its flight and began gaining height to reach the imaginative pinnacle of the author. They realised that they were unable to attain this height. But they kept on trying, again and again. Because the core scientific concept was not too distant from their imaginative reach. Their imagination and their knowledge too recognised it as a valid scientific concept. But when the scifi book detailed it via logical narratives, the scifi readers felt distanced from it. Nevertheless, their mind kept telling them that it is they who lack the imagination and the much needed IQ to  understand the imaginative genius of the author.

They felt this need to gain more knowledge without being challenged or outrightly being declared as incapable readers, who are unable to comprehend scientific concepts with complex construction. And when the scifi readers realised this; in order to gain more knowledge and know everything about the concept that they too were aware of, they read the scifi book more than twice. Until they were sure they had understood the concepts fully.

Because time warp is a scientific concept we all are aware of and how gravity influences it, we all know about it too. But the scifi book takes it to a different level. Where the #scifi reader feels pleasingly compelled to know about it in detail.

And the author of The Science of Interstellar, Mr. Kip Thorne; uses words that every scifi reader recognises, but when these words form paragraphs and generate an overview of the scientific concepts. The scifi readers struggled to understand them. This led to a situation where their awareness of the scientific concept was pitted against lack of intellectual gratification. And this motivated them to read it more than once. So that their partial awareness about the exciting scientific concepts could achieve a sense of fulfilment.

This desire to seek fulfilment while being aware that it is their own handicap that is preventing them from appreciating the marvels of the scientific concepts discussed in the best selling scifi book titled : The Science of Interstellar. Made almost every scifi reader interact with the book more than twice. Because they wanted to understand every scientific concept in complete detail.

And it is very rare that scifi authors can achieve this level of excitement where the scifi reader feels a slavish need to know more about it, no matter what it takes, even if that means reading the scifi book more than thrice. And the scifi book, The Science of Interstellar, creates a superb first impression via the opening pages of the book, and then the words used to introduce the reader to these scientific concepts are so well sequenced that they do not create deafening echoes of author’s scientific opinions, but they do create echoes which are absorbed by the valley of reader’s own imagination and knowledge surrounding these scientific topics.

That is what made Mr. Kip Thorne’s scifi book a best selling scifi book. Because this scifi book offered the scifi reader the valid need to read the scifi book. It did not urge the reader, it just created a genuine need and then let the scifi reader decide the next step. And as we all can tell from the success of the #scifi book written by Mr. Kip Thorne. Most of the scifi readers found the need worth addressing. Because it made them pursue their own desire to know more about the scientific concepts about which they already knew something.

Mr. Kip Thorne, had captivated the scifi readers’ imagination without even letting them feel they had been a part of the author’s plot to first impress them and then conquer their imagination with the power of his/her words. To such an extent that they voluntarily begin believing that the author's imagination is a part of their own imagination. Which was being subjected to scientific enrichment by interacting with the book. And this is what actually made the scifi book, The Science of Interstellar, a stellar success.

The author, via his words, had created the need for the scifi readers to continue playing the game of words. With one reward that drove all of them, including me, to know more about the scientific concepts we were already familiar with.

And there is a similar scifi book that explains brave and new scientific concepts via a romance scifi story. This scifi book is titled, They Loved in 2075.

If the scifi book, The Science of Interstellar, appealed to you because of brave scientific concepts. The scifi book, They Loved in 2075, will appeal to you because of its brilliant handling of the topics that will be the main cause of worry for the world in 2075. When humanity will be suffering from emotional deficit, and self aware machines along with intelligent machines, will be gradually altering the emotional makeup of all humans.

And can you imagine, in this situation, where humans are unable to emote and feel like humans, a boy falls in love with a beautiful girl, who is unable to feel human emotions and feelings. Can you imagine the kind of romance they will embark on and the crisis-like situation the world will be witnessing?

I know, you all are aware of this reality. But to know how it will impact and change human society and how self aware machines that can emote like humans, will become human adversaries at an emotional level. They Loved in 2075, is the scifi book you should be reading.

Getting excited! I know, the concept appeals to all thinking beings capable of feeling human emotions. To know more, please refer to the scifi book titled, They Loved in 2075.

If Mr. Kip Thorne’s book is titled The Science of Interstellar. I think it will be apt to rephrase the title of the #scifi book, They Loved in 2075, as : The Science of Human Emotions in 2075.
