Best selling science fiction books. The most amazing conclusion

Every scifibook writer attempts to reach a conclusion that is least expected by the readers. And if a #scifibook can conjure up an ending that the scifi readers find most enjoyable; and one that leaves deep impressions on their minds. The scifibook is going to be the best selling scifibook.

Because it continuously amazes the scifi readers to understand how could the scifi author navigate the plot of the story to such an unexpected ending. Unexpected, but one that made most sense. Moreover it surprised the readers’ every prediction via a conclusion that complimented the main story. That too without depriving the readers from the last moment of reading pleasure that a well told #scifi story should offer.

And not all stories end well. Here I am not referring to a happy ending, but an ending that can be either happy or tragic, but always the one that impresses and surprises the readers the most.

And this is where #scifibooks are different and very special. They offer a sort of progressive perspicuity as scifi readers go through the #scifi story. All because of a scientific idea that is clubbed with the fictional flow of the story bears logical clarity that can be predicted based on one's science related IQ.

The flow of the scifi stories is usually fictional, but being based on a scientific idea, a part of the story self reveals itself, and so does the conclusion. Because a scientific idea is based on logic and reasoning that cannot be foreign to anyone with a good IQ and a flair for deriving intelligibility from any scientific idea. Afterall, no matter how innovative a scientific idea may happen to be, it will always seek its fundamental nostrum from basic sets of related scientific reasonings and logic.

And no matter how pragmatic and seasoned a #scifi author may happen to be, he/she will always have to deal with this predicament. Make it necessary for the scifi author to grapple with this inherent challenge posed by #scifibooks. Where the science driven plot rides on the fictional story that keeps getting more predictable just like a chemical reaction. Where if you know which substances are part of the reaction, and what is their chemical composition and their valencies, you will always be able to pre-determine the outcome of the chemical reaction. That is what organic chemistry is all about. And this is what makes the flow of the scifi stories predictable, that only the experienced scifi authors know how to deal with and make it least or not at all predictable.

And writing a scfibook is almost like organic chemistry, where the scifi author has to cause a reaction between known substances, yet, in the end he/she has to surprise the scifi readers by generating a final outcome that is least expected by the scifi readers. And when the scifi readers spend a moment to understand the reaction which was being catalyzed by the imagination of the scifi author, they feel there was an element of conduit IQ in them that actually prevented them from imagining an outcome that the #scifi author engineered in the conclusion of his/her scifibook. Because his/her awareness of making the characters of the story react and act based on his/her literary peerlessness led him to incubate the final moment, where via his/her imaginative mastery; that always seeks pedagogic guidance from logic and reasoning. The scifi author was able to add an unexpected twist to the conclusion, leaving the scifi readers stunned and bemused as well.

In organic chemistry Carbon is considered to be the most accepting because with its outer shell valency of 6 it just needs 2 to reach the stable valency of 8 in the outer shell. And in scifi books, there is always this carbon like character that the experienced scifi authors use to drive the reaction as they wish; and then create that final moment of surprise, where they challenge the reasoning and science based IQ of almost all their readers. And it is these #scifibooks that happen to become the best selling #scifibooks.

But, if scifibooks are like a chemical reaction, they should be highly predictable, with the conclusion of the scifi story being the most predictable part. Yet, if not all, few of the #scifibooks manage to make their scifi stories least predictable, and that too without letting the scifi readers lose their interest in the scifi story. Because these #scifi authors do not get entangled in the paucity of chemical reactions and their predictable flow, they always think differently, where if carbon is the most accepting participant in a reaction, they surround it with many other participants, and the reaction gets so interesting that the carbon, has to deal with all participants in order to achieve its stable valency of 8 that is short of 2 . Do you know the reason why it is so? These scifi authors do not rely on known reactions between known compounds or chemicals, they invent new reactions by using a very different catalyst. A catalyst that does not accelerate or facilitate the reaction, but it facilitates the artistic imagination of the scifi author so that it can blend perfectly with the scifi story, where many actors and their characters are reacting at emotional and physical levels. So, it can be said, that in  a scifi story these scifi authors use this catalyst to achieve the desired progression in the flow of their scifi story, irrespective of the fact that the science based idea will have to react with proveable logic, that many times can limit the imagination of the scifi authors.

And in a scifi story it is the fictional storyline that acts as this catalyst. And this catalyst is very unique compared to catalysts used in chemical reactions. It adapts itself in accordance with the nature and roles of the characters in the scifi story. And it is this factor that tells a scifi story book apart from the best selling #scifibooks. In the best selling scifi books the authors make the best use of this catalyst by making it highly adaptive.

On what basis am I saying this? I am sure this is where your thoughts are queuing. The question is sensible and very valid too, so let me address it with an example.

Once again, like my previous blog posts, let me refer to Ms. Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein.

In this scifi book, Frankenstein is obsessed with the desire to make the dead live again. So he tries to bring a corpse back to life. His main stumbling block is his inability to create that perfect voltage with that exact current that would revive the organs of the corpse and add self sustaining fluidity to his clotted blood.

And this is where the #scifi author makes use of her catalyst that renders the story interesting and also makes it more unpredictable, with a strong element of intrigue and elusiveness being part of the final outcome.

Frankenstein tries subjecting the corpse to an electric current with higher voltage, but nothing happens, instead the corpse begins to emit smoke, because the voltage was too high, so high that it dried all the fluids in the corpse's body. He tries for many days and nights. Finally one day he readjusts the voltage, and subjects the corpse to an electric current, and this time the organs of the corpse react to it positively and the corpse develops life-like sensations. He becomes alive!

Now this is where fiction has been used as the main driving force and not absolute reasoning. Because subjecting a corpse to electric current of a certain voltage, may revive the heart of the corpse, but what about numerous brain cells that are lying dead in the brain? Because they begin to die like a chain reaction as soon as their oxygen supply is cut off and they do not receive sugars to feed on. A #scifi reader who is aware of basic IQ of biology would tend to think in this direction.

And this is where scifi readers have to apply some intellectual restraint. Because a #scifi writer as meticulous as Ms. Mary Shelley, would not leave such an aspect of rudimentary biological essence unattended. And she definitely does not do so in her famed scifi book, Frankenstein.

Nevertheless, with the help of these logical liberties the corpse develops a pulse. He has a mind, rather a brain that can think, but he has no memory of the past whatsoever.

And this is where Ms. Mary Shelley’s true genius lies. She uses fictional liberties to the advantage of the #scifibook’s main storyline, but without moving too far away from logical realities which always control the flow of a story that is based on a  scientific idea. Because she does mention about administering blood from donors into the subject’s veins, and employing some means to keep his brain cells alive. She uses fiction as a perfect catalyst but she stays true to the nature of characters participating in the reaction of the story, where a doctor is trying to bring a corpse to life.

She is aware that neural networks work like electric pathways in the human body, she also knows that the heart is a cluster of innumerable muscles, and they do need some electric charge if the heart has to be revived. She also mentions using a pump that keeps the blood in continuous circulation to prevent it from coagulating. All these facts go to prove that she knows how to use fictional liberties as her means to create a story that is enticing, but at the same time scientifically not insipid or irrelevant.

She even takes it further, by depriving Frankenstein's Monster from a soul. Although I have no doubt that she believed soul is a composition of one's memories, experiences and desires, which develop into a unique configuration of energy specific to each individual. Yet not to displease the social guardians of her time, she mentions soul, because she doesn't want her scifibook to be met with a social backlash and be treated as an incendiary work of fiction that hurts social and religious sentiments of readers. This also proves, she was a very intelligent but at the same time extremely sensitive human being. And her sensitivity reflects throughout the scifi story, especially towards the end where the Frankenstein’s Monster becomes revengeful and he retires into an unknown isolation, where anonymity is his only certainty.

The way Ms. Mary Shelley ends the #scifibook, proves that she felt sympathetic towards him. And there she employs something that women are capable of executing with absolute perfection. She allows her heart to act as the guide of her highly intelligent mind. She does not let the monster die, she sets him free with one asset that even Gods envy. Hope! Perhaps she let him go with Hope because she knew that afterall he was not soul-less, as long as he could learn to be good and kind, and not revengeful, he should someday be able to understand everything about soul and conscience. And feel human and not a monster!

When it comes to this she is matchless, because it is very rare that a reaction ends with Hope as an outcome, inspite of the fact that all characters reacted to their full capacity. Still, without letting any of the #scifi readers feel bad or let down, she set the Monster free with something that shall feed him selflessly, as it does all of us, the power of Hope.

Who could have imagined such an ending to such a brilliantly told scifi story. Simply brilliant and peerless!

Its ending is so powerful, that even after 2 centuries, I still think, where could that monster be, did he find what he was seeking, did he understand that soul is actually a sum total of one's beliefs, thoughts and experiences?

And when you think about it, you too as #scifi readers would admit that indeed Ms. Mary Shelley wrote a masterpiece, with an ending unlike any other. Because it allowed us to define the fate of the monster. And with so much profoundness that all of us reading the #scifibook decided to accompany the monster into his world of anonymity. Because we were keen to define his destiny. We as scifi readers hoped we can, and he as the monster hoped either he could or we would!

Isn't this beautiful! The most unpredictable and the most fascinating ending that this scifi story could have. I think there could not have been a better ending to this scifi story.

I too defined his destiny. To know how, please read the scifi book titled: They Loved in 2075. In this romance scifi,  Frankenstein’s monster is everywhere in the form of self aware machines. And in 2075, humanity is wondering how to assimilate the self aware machines with human settlements; because they are self aware with quantum intelligence, but they do not possess conscience. And this becomes the reason for a global war, where machines resist being denied their place in human societies.

And as humans begin to interact with them, humans lose their ability to express feelings and deep emotions. They too begin to behave and act like machines. And in this scenario, a boy falls in love with a beautiful girl who cannot emote at all. Still he loves to fall in love with her. Why? To know more about his obsession, you must discover the #scifibook, They Loved in 2075.

This scifi book brings Frankenstein's Monster back to the world of known and palpable realities, where once again, all of us are offered the opportunity to define his fate. Only that this time, defining his destiny, would define humanity’s fate. Our own destiny!

So, read it well and then as you define the fate of self aware machines, ponder for a moment and then act with Ms. Mary Shelley like humane sensitivity. And trust me, to be sensitive being a woman is not important, but being Ms. Mary Shelley like is very important. If you understand what I mean!
